  • Attesa ECU question ( Also how to replace front left wheel speed sensor?)

Hey guys, been a while, wondering if anyone could help.

My code is #2, Front Left Wheel Speed Sensor.

The last owner did so much ghetto rigging, he might have ripped out some of the wiring for Attesa / ABS.

How confident can I be in the ECU that this is definitely my problem?

It looks like a pain in the ass to run, I really have no idea how I'd do it, looks impossible.

Anyone have one for sale and have any input about fixing them/running the new one?

I already tried cleaning the sensor, and I have absolutely no idea how to use the multimeter I bought to test them.

The wheel speed sensors are a type of magnetic pulse generator. Basically they produce a voltage when a magnet in the sensor passes by a geared tooth on the speed sensor ring, inducing a voltage on the wires either + or - .

Realistically you should be checking the sensor with a labscope to see the full waveform pattern you are receiving from the sensor. I've seen some people disconnect the sensor, put the multimeter on a/c voltage, place the leads on the sensor wires and spin the wheel to see what sort of voltages they get if any. I would say this is a test to show if your getting any voltage, but not a very good test otherwise. You can also test the resistance of the sensor, but that is only a portion of the testing that should be done. I would also suggest you swap speed sensors from either side and see if the problem moves to the other wheel on the ecu readout but basically the chances of you getting the sensor out of the hub in one piece is one in a million.

You can try the resistance test and a/c voltage on your multimeter and see what happens, its not a very good idea of the sensor condition but i guess thats what you gotta work with.

Thanks a lot caliber. I will see if anyone has a labscope, and more advanced knowledge to help me test this.

I have no problem with swapping them to test and see if that't the issue, except I have NO CLUE how to get them out!!!

I appreciate your response, it helped a lot.

thats the problem with wheel speed sensors, with all the dirt, debris and water that has been on the knuckle, it basically seizes the sensor into the housing. I have never gotten a wss out in one piece, most of the time i've either twisted half the sensor off the housing or had to punch it out, again, destroying it.
