  • OS giken 3.0 short block/ tomei 2.6 & 2.8 long blocks anyone use/have them?

Ok I have a feeling this topic has been brought up once or twice before. but I have searched 30+ pages of threads 100's of pages in this section and others. also used the search function's of many gtr forums and google

My question is does anyone have reviews on these motors? I know another owner locally who has a os giken sb. but Have yet to have the opportunity to talk to him. What about the tomei motors? anyone have one? or heard reviews?

Looking to support 800hp and not worry about building it myself. Since these are rare as hell/ nobody has seen at machine shops in my area..

    Thank you,

    K_SHAN

Edit** this is the 2.6 advanced long block

    this is the 2.8

    and the OS giken SB

If you have a big budget, go all out with the OS 3L. If you're trying to build an 800hp that is well balanced then a 2.8L would be fine. Forget the 2.6L if you can afford better.

any more info on them? any experience? do you mean ditch the 2.6 as in (gain more liters = easier hp?) or is there more too it.

Only thing I noticed about the 2.6 is that they run a Nismo oil pump... I'd like a Tomei or something of that level. (the best please without going dry sump)

I've only been into the gtr rb26 thing for a few weeks. But I am a quick learner.. (came from 7m-gte and own 2 800+ 2jz-gte)

For example in australia, the guys running -5s on RB30 have seen as much as 800whp where we're limit around 550whp. I think the OS G is not tall as the Holden Rb30 so fitment requires no modding.

http://www.rhdjapan.com/os-giken-rb3...t-r-rb26-52407 droooooool do want, they've basically done everything I'd do for my dream GTR, I wonder if the sleeves are titanium though

So would that SB be cheaper than doing it custom? I imagine that while their parts must be top of their product line, there could be even better alternatives (I'm thinking pistons and etc)

              what about the RIPS rb30?
              http://www.ripsltd.com/products.html

they are proven to be reliable up to 1200whp and a lot cheaper compared to Tomei ad OSG

Seems to me the RIPS is based on the RB30 and the OS is based on the RB26...those floating cylinder walls on the OS are dreamy. That and they can be miles tougher if the right alloy/treatment is used. I'd love titanium walls, that stuff would super slick and resilient but necessary adjustements to the cooling capacity would be necessary to cope with it's poor conductivity.

Edit: I'm speaking out of my ass btw; it's my engineering pipe dream to have floating cylinder walls but I haven't got a clue if there is a true advantage to an iron block from a practical standpoint.

Kakimoto makes a RB30 using N1? RB26 block, spacer plate on top of block with I assume is Darton? sleeves (called a "high block"), custom crank, custom conrods, etc.

                  http://www.kakimotoracing.co.jp/04-0...parts_rb.htmlI see.

                    Ding,ding,ding........

OSG 30 is a complete waste of money, it's just as tall as an RB30 and is an unstable collection of parts. An RB30 block that is fully prepped with "hardblock" halfway up the coolant gallery and sonic tested to make sure the cyl. are nice and thick and you have a 1500hp monster (even more with a 3.2l stroker kit).

The OS30.has always struck me as a cobbled together, over complicated, EXPENSIVE, mess.

^ LOL agreed about the strength for 1500hp draggers with RIPS, but cobbled together? Where did you get that impression from?

BTW I love over complicated stuff

Have you ever seen a pic of all the parts laid out to build it, good lord man, the whole KISS thing is completely chucked out the window. At the 1000+ power level the last thing you want is a multitude of un-nessesary parts squirming around. If you are going to be under 1000hp then why spend $28,000 on a bottom end when an RB30 can do that with only forged pistons for about 1/10th the cost.

Seams like nothing more than a penis extender to me.

                            nothing at all.

RB30 is great but then it's a transplanted skyline (to the purists, it's not a true gtr anymore but a gtr with a holden engine haha). Then there's the hood or engine mount mods, turbo outlet mods. It's really simple of a swap. I would have gone this route but I'm a purist the the RB26. RIPS engines are the best way to go RB30. They're priced darn well for what you're getting. A built RB26 that is reliable for bigger power is going to run you over $10,000. Rb30 is what?
