No offence but if the service manual is "confusing" you should find a mechanic buddy or pay the $200 to get it done. I'd hate to hear about a noob fragging his interference engine due to timing belt missinstall...

Excuse me. I am far from a noob. So no need to be an ass. I have done lots of work to a lot of different cars. Just never personally done a timing belt. Be good to have a good guide for everyone to see and read.

I don't think he's trying to be an ass just stating the facts. A timing belt in general should be straight forward on rbs as there isn't anything complicated to it. The manual is very sis riptide and should be able to provide you with all the info including proper torque specs and proper tension on the belt. This is your best bet or take it to your local Nissan dealer

Cheppp. True... We all need a DIY, there is not any complete interpenetrating data to complete the job

It's ridiculously easy. Remove rad. Turn your crank until you get to tdc on the cam marks/crank. Remove the crank and the upper/lower timing belt cover. Remove idler, tensioner, t-belt. Replace with new tensioner and idler then put your new timing belt on. It will have 3 marks which go on the gears at the tdc marks. Once the belt is on turn the crank around by hand twice to add tension through the right side of the belt. Then apply same amount of tension as the right side on the idler and reverse steps. Btw it would be a good idea to do your water pump while your in there.

Here are some pics I saved from the past timing belt job I just did on my car. Maybe this can help you.

If you get stuck let us know. We can help you through out the e job. This was my first time doing it, so I might not have all the answers.

thanks for the help there... personally it will be sometime before i do mine... if i even need to do it... it was done before i got my car at around 100 000KMs, and i have about 150 000 now... so it might very well be fine... the only reason i am considering it is because my car has been parked for the past 3 years, so i am worried about cracking etc etc... so just doing the research now

Yeah it would be a good idea to change it up. I'm sure it would be fine, but that's not something you want to risk. Better off buying all the stuff you need. It's recommend you change the water pump as well since you are down there with it all apart. Then you should be good for another 100K.

Forgot to post the link for the online manual.
