R32 GTR O2 Sensor Testing?

Hey guys,

I tried doing a search, but couldn't find anything useful.

Does anyone know if there is a way to test the stock O2 sensors to see if they are still good, like a resistance value check or something? I looked through the service manual as well and didn't see anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You'll need an oscillioscope, Nissan's Consult (handheld diagnostic computer), or Nistune (datalog o2 sensor voltage) to check o2 sensors. You hold engine at 2000rpm and note how quick o2 sensor voltage switches from lean to rich, rich to lean, which is shown on oscillioscope or in Nistune tuning software, etc. I think it should switch 5 times in 10 seconds. Slower = lazy / failed o2 sensor. You'll need to check 2x o2 sensors on a RB26.

Wouldn't Mode 2 of the ECU diagnostic light do this too?

I think you can do it that way without Nissan's Consult. But isn't it harder to do it that way with 2x o2 sensors???

You're right, I didn't think that through, if there's a problem with mixture I'd just swap both... but that's me.

The o2 sensors are meant to be checked and if necessary replaced every 40-60,000km as part of routine maintenance.

voltage should vary from .1-.9mv if u only have a voltmeter...probe +wire and -wire

I would assume that I need to test the voltage of the O2 sensor while it is still conected to the harness right? Is there and easy way to get a test lead in there? Maybe with a wire wrapped around the pins and then putting the connectors back together again?

just push the probe into the back end of the plug you should be able to get a reading, make sure the voltage alternates above and below .4ish volts consistently, constant values above or below the .4v mark means the sensor is shot

when i had a faulty 02 sensor, it didnt give me any stalling issues, i was consistently running rich and failing emissions test though

where you get your o2 sensor? oem or AMS ?

^ Go with the NTK sensors from your local parts store. Youll need to swap one of the connectors tho.

Those stupid narrowband guages are great for diagnosing o2 sensors. lol.
