  • Limp Mode finally Fixed!

    Hi guys,

I'm posting an update on my car when it was running into limp mode (not being able to rev over 2500rpm) periodically for no reason, i found the problem and fixed it. I hope this can help others that's having the same problem. Here is the thread i've started last year about my problems and a few updates on the things i've changed.

here is the video of the car going into limp mode while driving all of a sudden.
Encountered this problem a while ago and finally found a fix for it. See my channel for the fix

This video shows the car at a complete stop going into limp mode and suddenly going out of limp mode.
This is the continuing problem showing it doesn't matter while driving or complete stop.

Here is the fixed video, it was the pigtail or harness that was acting up. I changed over another set of connectors, thanks to Brian! I opened up the old harness and sure enough the ground wire (thick black wire) was a bit corroded. I guess it got wet somehow and built up a bit of corrosion.
Finally fixed my limp mode problem once and for all. Bad connectors!

thanks for all the help from other members, and hopefully anyone else that's running into this problem can fix it alot sooner than i did.

Glad to hear you fixed it! Checking the harness is the next thing I'm going to do in trying to solve my similar problems.

            You're welcome.

Nissan's are known for wiring problems (nothing new, first place you should look). On Consult cable, the wires into Consult plug look like they are shrink wrapped to create extra grip. I've noticed that shrink wrap on some US made aftermarket looms as well, but aftermarket looms from Japan don't seem to have that shrink wrap (including stock loom, loom plugs).

Another weak area to solve, is run some relays to dash switches to stop them getting melted (plastic lugs) if left on for too long. From what I understand, the relay takes the full voltage, not the switches.

Thanks this was the next thing to check on my list. I have resoldered my mafs and cleaned them and it only seemed to fix the problem temporarily. Maybe cause I was just moving the wires around every time DOH!!! Gives me hope again. So in your video (driving) your car goes into limp mode for a lot longer than mine does. Was it for shorter periods of time in the past and just got progressively worse? Also was it a pain to get the clips apart to redo the wiring?

The limp mode sometimes was longer than others. The video show it at it's worse. Regarding the harness I had to get another set and cut the existing ones off and replace. After doing that I decided to open up the old ones out of curiosity and sure enough the ground wire was corroded.

Ah ok when you took the old ones apart was it fairly easy? Or did you have to end up breaking it to pry it apart? ( I would like to reuse my originals if possible)

I ended up breaking it because I had no use for them.

back from the dead. where did you source your pigtails from? I'm currently experiencing the exact same issue.

Edit: nvmd, found them on Right Drive parts/Wiring specialties.
