  • RB26 engine running a bit "shaky"

Im the new owner of a GTR 1990. I've been running my car since 3 weeks with no problems. 2 days ago, I step on the gas while turning a corner to have a little bit of fun but right after my engine been running weird. I stop on the side and the engine was running a bit "shaky". Even on the idle, the engine was shaking, but not too much. When I step on the gas, the engine is running but is still "shaking". The acceleration is not at its best and when the turbos kicks in, I still do not have all the power as usualy.

I had to drive the car back home but I did it carefully to make sure It doesnt get worst. After 30min of driving, the problem disapear and everything get back to normal. Yesterday I went for a test drive but very carefully and after 20min the problem re appeared.

The idle rpm is 1000. So the shaky problem doesnt come to a low rpm.

Can someone help me to point me tr problem?! Some say my MAF need to be check but theyve been cleaned last year by last owner.

Change your spark plugs. Compression test while in there. NGK BKR7E gapped to 0.8mm will probably help a lot. If compression is good look into getting a tune. Lots of things to go over with new ownership of vehicle. Especially these ones.
Dang! You got shocks, pegs... Lucky! You ever take it off any sweet jumps?

Airleak just behind MAF's (loose intake hose clamp, crack inbetween ribs on rubber intake piping or under intake hose clamp) can make engine start stuttering which is similar to coilpack failure. Usually if rev engine it disappears.

Coilpacks are leaking (check each coilpack for grey marks on both sides under mounting bracket). Engine intermittently runs on 5 cylinders due to faulty coilpack with loss of hp, pickup, etc. Eventually it permantly runs on 5 cylinders. If that happens you remove coilpack cover and unplug (plugging coilpack plug back in afterwards) each coilpack while engine is idling until you find the coilpack that doesn't affect engine (faulty coilpack). Or could check each coilpack on bench with multimeter (consult GTR engine manual on how to do this).

While changing my spark plugs for bcpr6eix, I saw one coilpack conecter was holding with a tie wrap. After changing the spark plugs, the problem was still there. After I checked all coilpacks connecter, the one holding with the tie wrap, was the problem. I disconnected it and there were no difference. So tomorow i'll be heading to Nissan to buy a brand new one. 130$ each is no cheap !

Will I see a difference if I change them all !? I mean, I can only change one, right!?

You can get a good condition used coilpack for around $25 each. So many people on here have spare ones kicking around. Many are in QC. Don't spend $130 on a new one. Just a friendly suggestion.....
