  • Backfire

Hey, I was driving at night last night and my friend behind me said my car is shooting out a little flame in 2nd gear and it makes a pop noise.. ( like a mini backfire)

anyone know why it would do this!?

Also my turbo feels like its lagging and losing a little power (sporadically) then it kicks in at about 4000+ rpms sometimes its fine and sometimes its effed.

I think the two might go hand in hand...

one more question! If one of my turbos is failing, how much would it cost to make a dual entry single oversized turbo?? Is that even a possibility

    thanks

There are a lot of good options for a nice twinscroll setup. Check some of the build threads on the forum and it'll give you an idea of what to expect.

As for the flames and backfires im not too sure. My car pops a lot sometimes too but only when I let off throttle.

Mine pops flames quite regularly, I also have a 3" catback, divided downpipe and my fuel pump rewired.

If your bovs are atmospheric this would cause the backfiring and small flame

I'd still take a peek at your turbos to make sure everything checks out alright

I wouldn't worry about it unless you notice it backfiring excessively. Could then be a timing issue or your possibly running lean. My GTS-t backfires every now an then but I recently installed a Tomei Ti exhaust with a 100mm tip so I can't blame it :P

and also backfiring is not the right theme, flame through exhaust is afterfire, backfire it flame explosion in the intake very bad is happen more likely with carburator engine

It's just running a little rich, when you back off the fuel burns in the exhaust.
Don't worry about it unless it doing it all the time. If it is using more fuel then usually, you may need to replace your o2 sensors.

Update if anyone wants to know, I did a compression test and the numbers were embarrassing, the head gasket was the issue but I sold the car and bought a new project
