  • Rb26 decided to not start

After doing my single turbo conversion my car will not start. At first it was running like I did the z32 mafs wrong but the ecu says code 21 ignition signal. When I disconnect the mafs I get a code for mafs and ignition after clearing the codes. The injectors flooded the.motor so I think the cas is good. I dried out the Cylinders and refreshed the plugs and reinstalled. Any ideas? Igniter chip? Also the red led on my ecu stays lit.

You may want to check your Ignitor/coil setup. It's the only place where an electrical mishap would cause no spark and your plugs to foul up due to petrol. On the engine harness, right around where it branches off to the injector side, there is a single plug that connects to a 12V battery source. If that is not hooked up properly, you wont be getting ANY voltage in your electrical system. If that checks out ok, then it is your ignitor. But please make sure before you put another one in that your wiring is alright.

Yes, if the plugs are getting flooded, the CAS is working, and so are the injectors.

The red light on the ECU stays lit only when the ignition key is in the 'on' position. Or is it staying on even when you have turned the whole car off and the key is out of the ignition? If so, that means your ECU's wiring may be messed. It takes 5V to run the ECU. I think it is the right or left most wires (upper AND lower).

In diagnostic mode, the light flashes codes (IIRC).

Can I use an igniter from any other.car? It won't be an easy item to get here in the states

An ignitor from another car may not work. You can use one from an RB20 engine, but NOT from an RB25 engine.

Surely there will be 240s or 180s or even the older 260s in your state or city that have an RB20 or RB26 in them. You can try that. Otherwise, just buy a used RB20/26 ignitor. Shouldn't cost more than $90 shipped to you. But that can come after the wiring setup has been ruled out as a possible cause.

Please keep us posted. I HATE to see fellow GTRCers in the USA not being able to get their cars running properly due to lack of parts' availability.

Make sure you have put earth back on ignition module mount, etc (I don't see the earth in photo, usually mounted to right front mount, under head of bolt). If there's no earth on ignition module it's known to blow ignition fuse (hence no spark). Check that there's a earth on ignition module mount, check other earths, etc, check fuses under dash, check engine bay fuse box.

You are all awesome. Im out of town for a drift event but when I get home tomorrow I will check it all. And I have an rb20 igniter that's extra I can try after eliminating all wiring as a cause

It was the damn maf wiring. the.diagram says you are looking at the plug from the harness side. we just did it backwards.
