  • Haltech or Vipec?

Looking to finally get a aftermarket ecu in my car. Was leaning towards AEM originally, Then talked to Cam at lightspeed and was leaning towards Vipec. Recently i have heard alot of good things about the Haltech pro series. Looking for input on these options. Am going to run a map sensor and ditch the mafs.
I am located in the BC interior and was also wondering if there is anyone fairly local with good knowledge/experience with tuning any of these ecus?

    Thanks

      ViPEC.

I think like Link G4 ECU, ViPEC ECU (same case, etc as Link ECU, but slightly different software) has onboard barometric compensation (adjust's for altitude), cold, hot temp maps (ignition, fuel) with IAT (Inlet Air Temp) sensor, etc. I think barometric sensor is an option on some MAP ECU's.

Motec would be the best and has aftermarket sensors, aftermarket ignition setup, etc, but is not cheap.

Just from what I have heard about the AEM. I have not been able to find anyone real familliar with the aem ecu either. Vipec there is Lightspeed which is about a 8 hr drive from here. I just recently started reading on here about the haltech and it sounds like it is a pretty good way to go?

Tommy at racing greed (port coquitlam) claims that he will be able to tune the ems v2 well. I actually just bought the ems v2 and will be having him tune it in a few weeks. There's also Wayne at garage 5 (richmond) who is actually trained to tune aem ems ecu's. He wasn't trained in the ems v2 but apparently "it shouldn't be too different".

Good luck. But definitely decide on who to tune it and then choose your ecu.

            Awesome thanks!
Let me know how that all goes for yoand how you like it. My mind isn't made up yet, and I have some time to figure out which way to go.

Haltech pro is good for guys who want full control while having a good priced ECU. There are more features on the vipec but most people don't use em or need em. Really comes down to tuner. Where's the nearest (and better) tuner and what does he prefer. I don't know who can tune haltech but I do know there are few vipec tuners in Canada which means you're limited.

I'd go with Vipec 88, since Vipec 44 has only 4 coil drivers (same as the AEM Series 1, only 4 coil drivers)
Haltech is good, but no knock control.

Or wait for the new AEM infinity 6 ECU. It seems to be the best of the bunch on paper.

I'd hate to be the bearer of bad news but the V88 is not produced anymore. I tried to order one and you can't anymore. There is word of a V88 pnp coming in the future though.

Nothing wrong with the V44, you could make huge reliable power on it no problem. I have lots of gizmos going to my 44 without issue though it would have been nice to run 6 EGT sensors and a better knock control than the V44 (which is an extra $500 external module )or so, no on board knock control with the V44.

                    Thanks for the information, Nismo!

In that case, I'd try any of the AEM series 2, Haltech, or V44. Or wait for the AEM Infinity, or V88 PNP if not in any hurry.

I was considering the AEM series 2, does anyone know any good tuners for this from Ontario, Quebec, Maritimes?

I Will just have to look into who can tune what.. I have a AEM wideband in my car now, and AEM water/meth, they should be able to be hooked to any of the ecus.
