  • Vipec.. car starting problems. please help!!

I have been working on my car getting it ready for a dyno tune this Friday. Been away working so I haven't had a lot of time to work on it. I bought a Vipec ecu off a fellow gtrc member as well as a set of denso 720cc injectors.

Everything is installed: Walbro 400lph pump, injectors with new orings, aem fuel pressure regulator, new spark plugs installed and mafs have been removed. Map sensor is t'd into the fuel pressure regulators vac line.

was hoping I would put the battery and fire it up, but no luck. I have hooked the fuel pressure regulator right after the fuel filter then to the fuel rail, where the stock fpr was. turn the key on and I have fuel to this point.

pulled a plug and it is dry. I was under the impression that the ecu is plug and play for high or low impedance injectors.

Is there any settings on the ecu that might be causing it not to fire? or anything needing to be done to run the denso injectors?

    Help is appreciated.
    Thanks

Did you set the injectors up on ECU (dead time, change in CC, etc)???? Tuning software should change dead time, voltage, startup fuel tables, fuel map, etc when you change cc of injectors.

From what I understand, dead time is when injector doesn't inject fuel and this is how it is worked out -

Manuals for Megasquirt-3 (MS3) ECUs (1.5.x firmware) The manuals are split into three main sections : 1. Setting Up, 2. Hardware and 3. TunerStudio Reference. Manuals are available to download as PDFs or to view online page by page in your web-browser. 1. Setting Up This manual contains a QuickStart… Continue reading

Did you set CAS up on ECU (should be already setup with base map, rising, falling edge, etc settings).

    Did you hardwire fuelpump???

I would suggest to read manual -

I am reading through the manual right now, I did not think I would have to hook a laptop up to this ecu to allow the car to start, since it came out of a car with these injectors already had a tune on it.
are these injectors high or low impedance? will any factory wiring need to be modded here? stock gtr is low, and the vipec is designed for high?
I have been away for the last 6 weeks, too much to do when I got home, might end up dragging the car down the way it is. probably something simple. Ran great on stock system.
      pump isn't hot wired, yet.

Had it running this morning, didn't like any throttle input would I believe the vipec just needs to be configured.

Vipec doesn't come with a turn key tune (at least not when I got mine years back)

If you go to lightspeed's website, they have some pretuned files you can use but you'll have to make minor changes like injectors (flash it down to your ecu). I used the 500hp one to get me to the tuner, worked fine for me and I only have 300hp. If you cant find it, I have a few different ones you can play with.

Stock GTR injectors are low. The stock resistor pack converts to high for stock ECU (would damage stock ECU if it didn't). GTS-T injectors are high.

When fuelpump isn't hardwired with bigger injectors, engine could struggle to idle (low fuel pressure / not enough fuel), makes it worse if injectors are not set correctly (open too much). When press throttle ECU inject's more fuel and engine probably would want to stall.

Does your cars engine have same mods as the engine the ECU was installed on??? If not, then tune needs to be changed to suit.

I got the car started this morning, sits at a steady idle. Does not like to have any throttle The car the ecu came from had similar mods, same injectors, but a single turbo where mine is twin 2860s. we both thought it would plug in a start off the previous tune, enough to get it to the tuner. It probably needs to go through all the pre-start config for my engine.

I will take a look at lightspeeds website.

Are the denso 720 injectors high or low? if they are low, then it should be a bolt in, if they are high then the stock resistor pack would have to be removed?

Calibrate your tps. You'll need a laptop and the free software. If you didn't calibrate the ecu for yor setup, that will cause issues. You'll need to configure the injectors. You have low impedance ones so keep the ballast. It's a tuner car so not always play and go, some tuning needed
