So i recently picked up a 92 gtr and i have been going through it getting it to 100% and i went to see if the boost restrictor pill was still in place and i noticed the entire set up that should be on the drivers side strut tower was missing. Traced the vac lines from the actuators to a box at the back drivers side of the engine bay. This has 1 vac line coming off it and 1 electronic connector. Im assuming this is the solenoid? If so the restrictor pill is removed and im still peaking boost at 10psi, if im right it should be 14 with the pill removed. I had an issue on my old wrx where the solenoid fried and it ran off stock canister pressure could this be the same situation possibly? Any other ideas or input appreciated new to the GTR so not to familiar with the system

Boost control issue

Could be.
Troubleshoot by:
- figuring out where the boost pressure sensor used by the control system is located, and whether the boost controller is set up to bleed intake manifold pressure before it gets to the waste gate actuators, or if it blocks pressure until boost reaches target and then sends some pressure to open the wastegates.
- apply pressure to the boost sensor with ignition on. Listen for a click when it actuated, and verify that airflow goes where it should.
Good luck!sigpic

First up I found the 2 lines that should feed the boost control solenoid, their both capped off. The boost collector is being fed off the intake manifold. At first I thought the collector was just a re located solenoid until i looked at the vac line diagram in the FSM. I havnt tested the actuators yet but if im right the second blocked line that houses the restrictor pill should feed those. unless their being fed from a different hose under the manifold that I missed. going to hunt for the line that feeds the actuators first thing in the morning. But so far this is unlike any kind of re route I have read about for install of a after market boost controller

As far as I know, there should be a yellow mark on hose where the factory boost restrictor is located (at least there is on later models, R33, R34, not 100% sure about R32 GTR).
Stock boost control solenoid has a boost restrictor in hose to help control boost level (different size boost restrictors produce different result's). Some put a high quality adjustable boost control valve to act as the restrictor when running cheaper boost control solenoids, especially on R33, R34 with RB25DET, stock boost control setup. Boost level is adjusted on ECU side with stock boost control setup.Last edited by Skym; 03-10-2013, 10:36 AM.RESPONSE MONSTER
