  • Daytime running lights- elec issue

A friend is helping me wire my drls for an oop. We had it all working but today I turned on my hibeams and everything stayed on. When I shut it all off my drls shut off too it's shorting out somewhere so I probably have to start from scratch.
Anyone have an easy way to wire my drls just to pass the inspection? And not **** up anything else in the process?

I usually wire the trigger wire to the #1 ignition coil, this turns on module with key on. If I remember correctly, you usually have to find the low beam wire on the headlight socket and splice into that and jump a wire to the other headlight. Not sure what kit you have, but most of the ones I have installed work something like what I described. It's been a while since I've hooked one up so I could be wrong.

You can open up the cluster surround, find the power wire running to the headlight switch, jump a wire from that to an ignition controlled fuse in the panel and bingo DRL's. It's cheating but it works.

Crappy tire module. Solves your issues.

Both of those options suck. The power from ign. to your headlight thing will only make it easy for someone to steal your car. Turn on the headlites and guess what, the ignition turns on and all someone has to to is bumpstart the car and away they go.

The module from Canadian Tire is a piece of crap too, it will work just long enough to get you through the inspection but that's about it. I've heard of them burning up too. It could be a one time thing but I don't care, any chance of something turning my car to a pile of ash is out the door.

On my last 3 JDMs I have been hooking up a Hobbs switch to an oil pressure port and having that trigger a relay to turn on the headlites. It's dead simple, will work forever and will only turn on the lights when the engine is running....perfect.

Wiring diagram please. Been interested in running lights but technically dont need them. But wouldn't mind having them.

Isn't that the whole point? Just to last long enough for inspect.

True enough but, what the hell, for about $30 in parts it will be permanent and work very well for a very long time. Isn't the module more like $50?

Thanks dragon. i might as well just do it the right way if I'm already taking the time on it then I don't have to worry about it.
