Hey guys, so I changed my oil last year at the beginning of summer. Over the summer I put maybe 1500 to 2000 kms on my GTR. It's not a daily driver it's more of a weekend warrior. Now it's been in my garage all winter, which is heated. I was just wondering what your thoughts are as to if I should just go ahead and change the oil again, or if it will still be good for a month or so come may when I bring it out? Thanks

change it. better to be safe then sorry... just change it, maybe what 40 bucks out of pocket to make sure its good oil... just make sure you do it before you go to start it... so if you arent planning on starting it for another month, then leave it and do the change before you start it,Currently rollin' in a 1997 Nissan 240sx こうき

Oil will absorb moisture over time. Even with little to no mileage, the heat cycling is enough to create condensation. General rule of thumb in the industry is 3 months or 5000kms, whatever comes first.

OIL;
conventional - is full of minerals, and breaks down rather fast and stops protecting the metal surfaces due to the gas, and heat breaking it down. this is why you must change conventional so often. with in 1000km you have 75% protection
also, due to the gases in the engine non-use still degrades oil in 3 months (3,000km)
conventional will be removed from market and only bleanded will be massproduced as the basic oil
blended- exactly how it sounds a mix of syn and conventional oil between 50%-75% (5,000km)
degrades with non-use in 6 months
full-syn- no less then 75% synthectic oil.- synthectics dont break down. the detergents do. 6months - 1 year (7,500km)
100% syn- is 100% syn. contain no oil which breaks down, and higher grade detergents which are rated for longer periods, at heatewr temps.
can last for at least 1 year with non-use, and manufacture graded kilometers (up to 75,000km)
most recommend miles as regular service, but this is canada an extreme service climate so just swap mile for km. and replace often.
its your engine. oil is cheap insurnace.
so in answer : yes change your oil out of storage no matter the km. youll thank yourself after years of reliable use.

if you store on dirty oil then your engine is bathing in a mix of carbon and gas and is suffering internal corrosion that you cant see.
