  • info about sway bar end links

    Hey,

I've swapped the sway bars on my R32 GTR for cusco's not long ago and I've noticed that the end links are pretty ''thin''... Is it worth it to swap these too?

    Does anybody know this brand?

If it's crap, what would you recommend?
Would Whiteline be a better choice? Does Cusco make end links?

    Thanks!

OEM end links are fine if they're still tight and you're not looking for adjustability. Otherwise Whiteline would be my choice.

Most of the white line links I've seen have the rear end links with a 90deg bend to fit their swaybars so they wouldn't fit oem. I opted to get new front end links and get white line bushings for the rear.

If factory bushes look too squeezed or starting to crack, replace them. Car will handle way better when you do. Most of the bad handling, stability, grip problems on a Skyline is due to the failed endlink bushes or loose, failed suspension parts.

Nolathane bushes or Nismo bushes (they use hardened rubber, which makes them way stronger than the softer factory bushes).

Nismo sell a swaybar kit for R32GTR (including bushes) and mention replacement bushes (endlink bushes should be the same between stock, Nismo)-

              @Frankyman: good job buddy!

@Skym: I can't figure out what are the part numbers and the price of the nismo end link bushings (rear and front) for a BNR32 in the catalog/link you posted... I'm an idiot... lol

Just have to compare left page to right page. Left page is the part number for the swaybar kit, including swaybar (look at kit for R32 GTR, part number next to it). If look on right page in far left column, notice the same part number?? Then next to that is the front, rear part numbers (I assume bush kit for front swaybar, bush kit for rear swaybar).

I can't read Japanese, so probably would need to ask this person to translate to find out if it's D link (middle of swaybar), end link bushes together in the front, rear bush kits -

Prices are in yen (with and without tax) that need to be converted to Canadian $$$$ and might need to pay local tax if ship them to a local address (business), then out to where you are.

White line does not sell factory replacement rear end links (they only sell the L shaped adjustable ones) but they do sell bushes for the stock rods. Cusco bars are hollow (I hear it's stronger?) and bigger that whiteline which are solid but white line are adjustable which makes them better.

IMO, the ultimate is to go whiteline bars and endlinks for best results but I went cusco and are unable to sell them to go adjustable (but not as stiff/light) since most people can't afford expensive.

Hollow = lighter but not as strong.

Solid = heavier but very strong.

From what I understand, the rate difference between the two is different, so a smaller diameter solid sway bar is similar to a bigger diameter hollow sway bar. Whiteline have a rate chart, so can see the rate increase when changing size of sway bar.

The whole purpose of a swaybar is to stop suspension expanding thus making car bodyroll when cornering. Stronger the bar, less the suspension expands and less bodyroll you get. The bushes play a part in this, as if bushes are failed the swaybar doesn't work properly (learnt this from experience) and car body rolls more.

ARC sell adjustable or non adjustable swaybars.

nah, ok ok, these are not the bushing I was talkin about... I want to replace the link kit bushes, not the sway bar bushes (the cusco's bushing were included with the bars...). Are only the rear end link bushes replaceable? For the front ones, do I need to change the whole end links??

I was saying to get the Nismo end link bushes, might have to buy the D link, end links bushes together as part of the front, rear sway bar bush kits.

When buy new stock sway bar bushes from Nissan, get a whole set of them and reuse the rods, etc. But you can fit Nolathane, Energy suspension, etc end link bushes that are better (some do with stock sway bars).

                          no, very much no

i just did an engineering project on the GTR suspension and had to calculate my anti-roll bar stiffnesses, which is the cusco in my case
i used a simplified geometry (no weird bends)

so here is a comparison of the cusco and whiteline VS oem GTR anti-roll bars, with the same geometry

                          -front-
oem 20mm out dia, 16mm in dia
cusco is 24mm out dia, 16mm in dia
whiteline is 22mm dia full, and with a 25mm (1") adjustment towards stiffer

this would give weights & rates of
                          oem ; 3.2lbs ; 12lbs / deg torsion
                          cusco ; 6.4lbs ; 34lbs / deg torsion (183% increase)
                          whiteline ; 9.3lbs ; 33lbs / deg torsion (175% increase)

                          -rear-
oem 25.4mm out dia, 19mm in dia
cusco is 30mm out dia, 21.5mm in dia
whiteline is 24mm dia full, and with a 25mm (1") adjustment towards stiffer

this would give weights & rates of
                          oem ; 5.8lbs ; 51lbs / deg torsion
                          cusco ; 8.6lbs ; 106lbs / deg torsion (108% increase)
                          whiteline ; 10.8lbs ; 70lbs / deg torsion (37% increase)

i had whiteline in the past, switched to cusco, for a reason

^ Semantics maybe? He said 'strength' which, yes, the full bar has more of it; shear cross section is 30% higher in the whiteline. For torsion rate, you are absolutely right though.

That's interesting, thank you for sharing that info.

Do you know where to get formula??? I can only find shock, spring to sway bar formula???
