  • Reimax gears

hey guys, my n1 oil pump gears blew up on me last weekend as i was dragging the car. hopefully, i saw the oil pressure go down full throttle and shut down the engine. no appareaing damage on the crank / rod bearigs.

car is a r32 gtr with full internals, / pistons rods blablabla. has a r33 crank puting out 450 whp.

now as i do not want to have this problem again, here is what i want to go for. I have an r33 crank into my engine.

i mesured my stock r32 gtr gears (old oil pump) onto the crank, and it has .018 clearence with the crank (OMFG). i want to order myself a kit of reimax gears.

I would like to know, with all of your experience and mesurements, what is the clearence between the
crank and the reimax gear? is it still something rediculous or are the tolerences in specs of a non failing pump?
just dont want to order gears and end up selling them because i still dont have the good tolerences.

plese dont tell me to get a crank callar machined.

    thanks for you help!

Your only real option is to order the gears, measure them up and make the call to have a collar put on if the clearence is too big between the crank and the drive gear. Really though, a set of gears should fix the issue even at .018" clearence. Sintered iron wears well but cracks if you sneeze on it.
My pump is a Nissan case, don't know what's inside but its definately not after market and I am +300 HP on top of you.

If have forged internals, would only run a Tomei oil pump (adjustable pressure, etc). Or dry sump if can afford it.

Also I remember the clearance problem with gears has cost some people a engine. Properly made aftermarket oil pump drive collar with screw should fix it, but you need to machine the stock oil pump drive off the front of crank which you probably don't want to do.

its my second gtr . has full rebuild also, oversized and a couple of things done to my engine. my other skyline i installed a jun oil pump and made a collar as it had an early r32 crank. but it comes up more expensive to put a collar + aftermarket oil pump then a tomei. as of now, the engine is out of the car and so is the oil pump. tomei is bolt on, but what other percautions do i have to know about it? just plug and play, and adjust oil pressure or do i have to make a collar if running it on a stock r33 crankshaft?

i have read a bit about them, correct me if i am wrong, but apparently you have to put oil restrictors and make it run external?

You have to run a bigger capacity sump with box section around pickup, one way trap doors, as Tomei oil pump moves alot more oil than stock oil pump, oil restrictors.

Tomei recommend their oil pump with their forged internal engines and tell you what you need to run with it -

Similar higher volume, pressure oil pump is used on Group-A engines (650hp engine), but is not adjustable with pressure.

N1 oilpump is used on N1 endurance engines which produce around 460-500hp and produce that around 6000rpm (keep stock rev limiters, lower boost level, around 1bar).

Other options is Ross external oil pump with enlarged sump -

Similar external oil pump setup is used on this 900hp at wheels R32 GTR dragcar in Australia (7 litre sump) -

Also might look into buying this kit (future) for more accurate ignition timing -

There's a powersteering belt part to it as well that prevents powersteering belt failure (common problem).
