Coilpack might not have been plugged in properly.
New coilpack harness from Nissan has 1-6 stickers on the harness, so it's very hard to plug coilpacks in the wrong way. The stickers can fall off to around where sparkplug is (could be what is melting).RESPONSE MONSTER

i bought the coil harness from the wiring specialists and theres no labeling on them. and its not the stickers lol this thing was full on smoking the coil pack is melted and was shooting out black ****. i think i swapped 1st with 2nd vice versa. i guess the longest wire and connector goes to spark plug 2... fooled me. now i gotta buy a new coilpack

Ya sounds like a power wire grounding or something along those lines. Could also have been a bad coil pack.
If you had swapped the connectors your car would have ran like **** and you would know you had it wrong

I sent the harness back to be tested and it passed all their tests. I don't get it . I have my dash trim pulled out and the stock kenwood amp unplugged at the back I don't see how that could cause this and put in a new battery. Also all I did was pull the old turbos out and put new ones in and had yhe cam covers off, basic stuff tho. Is it possible I have the o2 sensor connectors mismatched? Before this the car sat in a garage for 6 months and was running. Should I replace the igniter chip? any help is appreciated was looking forward to driving the car

Where is the coil pack melting? Check to make sure your spark plugs are tight, leaking combustion out the head will def melt the coil. Check to make sure your coil pack spring is contacting the spark plug end, a large gap will cause arcing and thus more melting. You may want to swap out ignitor packs to rule out a short also male sure your terminals on the harness are sitting properly in the connector, a gap with a loose contact will cause arcing. The coil pack seeing high voltage shouldn't melt it as they induce upwards of 20-50,000 volts. Poor contacts, bad grounds, and corrosion are all things that will increase resistance and therefore heat.“Hey, come on, its a car right? The coil pack is melting right below the nissan symbol go figure lol http://imgc.classistatic.com/cps/bln...595e2m_20.jpeg it happens when the car isn't even running , once I engage the battery it starts smoking and shooting out black melted plastic takes about 1 minute. I will replace the coil igniter I'm waiting on the harness to come back from the states.

Move the coil to cylinder 2 or 3 and plug it in but don't start the engine.
If it smokes then it's the coil not the harness
If it doesn't it maybe harness or igniter.Favorites

its internal on the coil pack, there is probably a short in the field windings within the coil. weird to have it happen when you worked on it, but its possible it got damaged. I bet once you get the harness back with a new coilpack it will be fine.“Hey, come on, its a car right? Well I got the harness back and I also got another igniter. Plugged everything in and it ran for a good 5 minutes till coil pack 6 melted. Way less smoke this time it kind of just farted out some black stuff then stayed like that and the car continued to run. Is it possible all my coil packs are **** and now their getting the proper voltage from the new harness and can't handle it? Or should I just buy a OEM harness because I've cooked 3 coil packs...
