  • Will these cams effect my idle?

Hey everyone, I may be buying some cams from a buddy of mine, but I dont want my idle affected too much as it is my daily driver and I want it running smoothly. my build is aiming for 500hp. It has pistons, rods, bearings, etc etc. Built bottom end, but stock head except for these cams and and the re-shim.

How much will these affect my idle? Thanks!

    JUN RB26 cams. 260in 9.25 lift & 270ex 9.25 lift

    Regards, Elliot
PM or respond, its all good

Ain't nothin some gears can't fix. Don't worry about a bit of chop in the idle, do you remember what my car sounded like? All that rumbly and she still putts around a parking lot like a Prius.

Unfortunately no, I never got to really hear your car run. Just within the Skyneet cruise.

I'm no engine expert by ANY stretch (So bear with me) but won't the cam gears just effect te timing and leave the actual valve lift the same? I know timing is obviously important but isn't it the increased valve lift that causes the aggressive idles?

You can adjust your overlap time which will help smooth out things

Yup, it's the overlap that gives you the rumbles. You can spread the lobe separation out a bit and that would smooth those cams right out.

Generally cost a fair bit more to tune cam timing. Involves adjustment, set timing with light, dyno pull, repeat until you see no gains. Can take a couple hours to dial it in correctly. Maybe see how she purrs first with the cams, generally that lift won't be too aggressive and I think you'll be satisfied with the idle. Bump it up to about 1000 rpm though.

Yeah I speak to him about that. I agree with the 1000rpm too.
