  • Bnr32 idle and 4wd.

Hey guys I have a BNR32, I had a weird idle problem. It drops to like 50 then bounces back up around to 1.2 then back down and up again till it finds itself again at 1.1 or whatever. I swapped my MAF's over from my other gtr and it fixed the bouncing up and down. As of now it'll drop down to 50 (Sometimes it'll just shut off) and then bounces right back to 1-1.1 right away and stays steady. I can't hear any leaks anywhere.. any suggestions? I have already tried contact cleaner. I also had the MAF's I replaced from my other GTR cleaned last summer.

Second problem is, I had bought my second GTR without the rear reservoir and lines to the ETS pump. So no AWD. I recently got to purchase the rear reservoir with the bracket. Had some troubles finding the OEM lines to the pump. So I got my own rubber lines and had it going back to the pump. Filled it up with power steering fluid, no leaks anywhere. Of course I gotta flush the awd system. Besides that I had the reservoir, plugged back in the trunk. So wouldn't my 4wd light turn off? Do you guys think the flush will get that awd working again? (little lazy in the cold, *flame shield on* plus my other gtr is in the garage) It just snowed and the roads are a little nasty so I'm more concerned now.. I love the awd T________T

    Thank you GTRC~!

Check TPS adjustment (make sure it's on idle contact at idle), voltage range to see if it's faulty. When TPS is faulty it can make engine stumble or stall (replace TPS around same time as o2 sensors, 40-60,000kms) when load is applied to engine.

You can test this (make sure engine is up to operating temp) by putting aircon, light's etc on when on flat ground and then suddenly stop the car, if engine stumbles or nearly stalls, then you know it's that. Or load engine up on a hill and suddenly back off throttle.

In some cases it can be the wiring into TPS plug (someone knocked the TPS plug when working on engine, rare but does happen).

When on idle contact inside TPS, it tells ECU to kick rpm up (switches to kick down tables in engine management software) to prevent engine from stalling and switches to idle stabilisation tables, etc.

Sometimes it can be related to lazy o2 sensors (slow to switch between rich and lean, which can make rpm rise when running lean and drop when running rich), so check those as well.

Other is when intercooler hoses blow off, so check those.

About 4wd, a warning light comes on for many reasons, sensor not there or faulty (sometimes not plugged in or has loose wiring problem into plug, which is common on Skylines due to people pulling on wiring instead of plug), low fluid level in resouvoir (check for leaks).

If the 4wd light is on, the 4wd/abs ecu in the boot will be flashing a fault code. From memory the led is on the back on the ecu so you'll either need to unbolt the ecu or use a mirror to see it. Google the fault code.

Kiwi here so boot = trunk, under the rear speaker tray.
