Engine serial, how do you know the year?

I dunno from serial numbers, but r33 gtr style rb26 should have newer hitachi cas. Also tranny should be pull style clutch. And if if u r able to pull the timing gear off u can see that the oil drive is almost fully engaged with the oil pump. However the cas and pull style clutch could have been replaced etc. hope this helps

Little late but no full database exists for engine serial numbers, only user made ones...you can try this:
