  • R32 GT-R missfire at high rpm help!

    So heres whats happening.

This misfire problem seems to come and go, but is almost always there. My gtr is misfiring above 4500 rpm, and only when its under boost. Its almost like a hesitation, it pops, sometimes violently, sometimes barely at all. I am running rebuilt stock turbos with steel exhaust wheels. I do not have a boost controller installed, just the factory boost restrictor removed. I have mishimoto slim fans, 3'' cat back exhaust, and apexi intakes. Running 10w40 royal purple oil, and always gets 91 octane fuel, or husky 94 when Im near one.

This problem goes away when i retard the CAS... So im leaning towards coil packs or the ignitor. Engine is timed to 20 degrees btdc. I have a box in the trunk with 6 injectors and a bill for injector servicing from previous owner, im assuming the ones in the box are the old ones. I pulled the mafs apart and re soldered a while ago, that fixed limp mode problem. Havent changed plugs in a while, gonna do them this week. Which plugs should I go with ?

Where should I start with diagnosing this problem ? damn misfire.

Your coil packs are starting to go, for spark plus i like to use bkr7e gapped to .24.

check the impedence of the coils as per the FSM and verify there are no cracks. There is also a lengthly procedure on testing coils on Youtube.
Changine the coil harness is never a bad idea. Around $150 from Daryl at RightDrive if memory serves.
More than that I'd suggest your ignitor is toast. I had virtually the same problem and it turned out to be the ignitor. You can usually pick up a used one for around $100. Or try a friends and see if that solves your problem.

        Ya ya ^^^

If you have never looked at your plugs, definately start there. Plain copper plug at .8 mm should fix everything if that is the issue. The violent part though sounds more like an ignitor issue. Try all of the above...gotta be one of them.

Bad spark plugs (gap or wrong heatrange) can cause the coilpacks to fail, usually 2x coilpacks. On my car it was cylinder 4 and 5 which seems to be common when it started missing at higher rpm due to too wider gap on sparkplugs (one of those lessons you learn the hardway) and the rest were ok. But best to replace them all with new stock coilpacks.

I have the same problem on my Gts-t, still trying to find the right issue.

I'll adjust the gap then if it's not right ill try igniter!

                +1 for ignition system...
I switched my r32 gtr ignition system for a 34 gtr harness and coil packs (eliminates ignitor)

                All ignition issues are gone.

Is it plug and play or you need to change other things to make it work??
