So I finally got the car out to the drag strip after waiting so long to finally drive it. It was a fun day but I also found some issues with the car. Prior to the drag strip the car idled nicely at about 900 rpm with a nice 14.5 afr.
Somewhere throughout the day my idle slowly jumped up and eventually ended at 1200-1400ish rpm with an afr in the 15s. Does anyone have any idea as to what this might be? I am going to try and get a timing light and just make sure timing is still good other than that I have no plans of attack besides buying a new dipstick. The oil is already all cleaned up and we didn't lose alot as the car still reads as full.
As for the drag strip if anyone wants to know how it went.
It was my first time ever doing anything track related or anything with the car so times were far from what was expected. The first time we rolled up to the tree someone else was already there and his lights were going down my dad(who was riding shot gun the whole day) was like go go go! so I ended up going before I was even staged or had a count down - no time.
Round 2 I was told "one second buddy" while the other guy was getting staged. This led me to believe he was going down on his own so when I had a green light it was like **** gotta go! so reaction time was well over a second and no special launchy stuff.
As the day went on I slowly started to figure it out, however never really got a good launch. The first time we actually managed to get clocked was a 15.2 and I got it down to a 14.64 by the end of the day. This is with a passenger and with the car not running 100%.
We've also decided(since leaving the track yestarday) that I had 2 other factors slowing me down. Need wider tires, I was spinning all 4, only running 225s. Also I need to stretch 1st and 2nd gear more. I was shifting out of first at 6500rpm and second around 7500. My 1000ft time was 12.2 ish at the end of the day and I was always shifting into 4th right near the end of the track. I think that was dropping a bit of time off.
