  • Question Re Kakimoto Exhaust baffles ....

I have HKS split dumps to a Blitz front pipe into a cat and then a Kakimoto N1Mega + Rev cat-back. The issue I have is that the 'Straight through' 90 mm piping chokes down through a welded in baffle in the muffler (argh!). Anybody else cut their baffle out? I've seen a few guy on the Aussie site have done it but wondering if it is worth the hassle or just sell this system and get something either custom made or just go Tomei Ti properly like I probably should have done in the first place

It looks like drilling a starter hole and then a long blade on my sawzall would probably take care of it.

I know some others here have the same issue ... thoughts?

The system really is in excellent shape and looks killer but I'm having a lot trouble getting over the baffle.

Can just make a custom exhaust to your specs if find a racecar fabricator. Or ask them to modify it.

Most Japanese made exhausts sit lower than they should to get a straight line, so can hit speed bumps, etc.

I think Apexi make the best exhaust as far as performance, quality goes.

As far as I know Apexi invented that N1 style exhaust with megaphone (slight changing diameter to help extract exhaust gas from engine) and is as straight as possible to get maximum flow, less restriction. But like most good things it isn't cheap.

I think the best for hp is the dual exhaust (one pipe for each turbo) from Apexi or Veilside, as it gives more mid to peak hp (as used on Veilsides around 1500hp at engine street drag / top speed R34 GTR).

Thanks Skym, There are a couple of great local custom exhaust shops but I already have the Kakimoto system in hand. The quality is fantastic, straight runs and I needed the extra dough for a twin stroller and few more car seats haha. I figured I'd try the free solution first and see how it goes.

Update: A cordless drill, 3/4" bit, a round stone to clean the burrs and 15 minutes later one 'cheesed' muffler baffle. Sounds proper now and boost builds noticeably quicker again. If you have an internal muffler baffle, I'd do this. I still may cut it right out for full 90 mm piping to 115mm and get the bolt-in baffle for those times when you might want it quieter but this was time well spent ...

I have the same exhaust... how did you manage to drill throughout the whole length of the baffle?
