  • Trust/GReddy Oil Cooler Question

I have what I believe to be a 16-row Trust/GReddy oil cooler with the lines and sandwich plate. I recently got back to America from being stationed in Japan the past two years. My car is registered in the states now and I want to start installing all the parts I stockpiled over time.

My question is what all will i need to install this oil cooler and add a relocation kit in as well as a thermostat to this set-up?

I also noticed in pictures of the oil cooler kit brand new that there is a center piece sandwich plate that I do not have. What exactly is that if anyone knows by chance?

    All help is greatly appreciated

Looks to me like the sandwich plate you have would mount down where your filter is. There is no relocation kit as there is no third -AN line pictured.
A relocation kit would have a "plate" the would screw on in place of your filter. One hose would go to wherever you relocated the filter too (this plate would house your thermostat), another hose running to your cooler and from your cooler back to the 1st location where'd your filter was originally.

The sandwich plate you have goes where the oil filter goes on the shortblock, as mentioned in post above.

To get relocation of oil filter with that setup, you buy a Greedy / Trust oil filter relocation kit (I think Skyline is 3/4x16UNF) -

The other remote plate inbetween oil cooler core, shortblock requires 2x new sandwich plates, the remote plate (4 x ports) having the thermostat inside it and the take off plate on the engine itself with fittings that screw into the top of it, braided hoses, fittings to suit.

The oil filter relocation kit has the take off plate, so you will just need 2x new fittings, adaptors for take off plate, remote sandwich plate (4x ports), braided hoses, fittings to suit if want to change the setup later on.

Be aware some oil coolers come off cars that might have had the engine spin a bearing or two, so I would replace the oil cooler core itself (metal can lodge itself inside the oil cooler core). It's best to be safe than sorry.

You can buy Setrab oil cooler cores locally in the US that are very strong and come with their own mounting bracket kit (bought separately). The mounting bracket kit has rubber insulators, so the oil cooler core flexes when the chassis is twisting (while cornering). Also the oilcooler core has reinforcing on the end tanks (reduces twisting) and end tanks are not glued on like some cheaper oil cooler cores.

Then flush the braided lines, pull thermostat on sandwich plate (screws into the side, the little cylinder part on sandwich plate) and throughly clean the sandwich plate to make sure no metal is lodged in there.
