I thought the AMB button is linked to the temperature sensor attached to the harness near the horn (in engine bay) and reads the ambient temperature of your surroundings.

There is a separate temperature sensor in the cabin in your centre console where the ashtray is.

At least, from my understanding. Can someone confirm this?

FYI, my AC doesn't work so it's been deleted. 18C is all I need here, and with windows down in summer.

Confirmed AMB is outside temp. Also if you turn it to AC I believe it just blows AC. If you turn it to ECON Auto it will adjust the temp.

With FC I have had my car well below 0 based on a temp gun while mine was being recharged.

There's a little motor that pushes a rod in and out to control the flow of hot and cold air into the cabin. All the way backwards = hot. All the way forwards = cold. This arm can get stuck and jam in one place, which is what happened with mine. Then it broke. I found I could push it forwards and get cool-ish air coming out, but as soon as I accelerated hard it would slam backwards and I'd get a blast of hot air. Try looking under the dash to check if that rod is moving or not when you try to change the climate control temp.

Sorry for the blurry pic. It's pretty easy to see once you get under there. It's the only metal rod attached to a plastic bit underneath the dash. You can see it if you get on your back and stick your head under the dash on the passenger side

R12 is pretty hard to come by, your best bet is probably going to be to convert it to the more ozone-friendly R134A

You can buy the R134A (I think?) recharge kits at Crappy Tire for like 50$. If I remember, you can mix it with your old R12 without flushing the system. Unless your losing pressure because your system has a leak.

Did the job for me, and my AC is ice cold. Just remember that the low pressure side (where you recharge) is the non accessible niple under the brake booster, not the one close to the rad.

Only downside is later most shops will not touch the system because the gases are mixed. But who cares.

as mentioned, you need is this Redtek stuff from either Crappy tire or Partsource. It uses a more environmentally friendly refrigant called 12A. It works for both old R12 and newer R134 systems.

                        http://www.redtek.com/home.html#

You need to buy the kit with the gauge. DO NOT cheap out and buy the one w/o the gauge. you are just wasting your money.

I've used this for years and it works perfectly if done correctly. So be sure to follow the instructions.
