  • Why are websites telling me not to machine the flywheel?

So I found a bunch of 300ZX N/A clutch parts online to slap onto my RB20DET, and it says in the descriptions that the flywheels shouldn't be machined when replacing the clutch assemblies. Is this a 300ZX thing or are they just totally full of crap?
I've been brushing my teeth with jack but it's resulted in terrible amounts of tooth decay.

Seems like for best performance you should resurface the fly wheel anyways.

no reason not to resurface the stock flywheel unless its out of spec. You just dont want to try and machine an aftermarket 2pc one.

Resurfacing is fine. Machining can cause serious problems. check this video...

Thats an example of a oem flywheel machined too much, they are known to just blowup. Not sure how much you can shave an oem skyline flywheel safely but I would recommend spending the money on a aftermarket one and potenitally save yourself from a gernade beside your legs. hope that helps.

there is nothing wrong with machining a flywheel, having said that i would not do it more than once on a stock flywheel if your doing a high hp application

I agree about heavily machining to make stock flywheel lighter. It makes it weaker.

i just had mine resurfaced when i tore my engine out to clean it up, it was kinda scuffed up. no ridges or anything, so i thought it'd be alright. I won't be shooting for over 400HP until I get a new clutch, I'll get a new flywheel when I do that.
