  • Should I run power steering on my 450whp rb25?

Hey guys just wondering if anyone has experience driving without there power steering (hicas and pump fully removed). I'm just curious as to whether or not it will be very hard to correct when going sideways etc. I drove my rb20 without it for a while and it sucked, but I still had the pump and hicas installed just no belt.

    Thanks

i would think that it would not be the best idea to run without it, with that much power id rather not be worried about if im gonna come out of the corner correctly and scramble to try to turn the wheel to correct.
I love the thing and its worth it every time I start it. As soon as it stops make me smile ill get rid of it (not gonna happen)

Keep your power steering. Removing it is just dumb imo.

Ya I agree with you that it's dumb not to have it. I was just wondering if anyone has ever rolled without it and knows how bad It really is

I know someone who has, if I'm not mistaken they managed okay. With a power steering oriented rack, you're going to rape your arms turning the wheels when stationary.

If you're going to track the car (for grip....I don't know if this holds true for drift) using a manual rack can really help. You will have a much more direct connection to the front wheels and level of grip around the corners than with power steering. I converted my v8-powered 944 to a manual rack - an actual manual rack, not a ghetto'd power rack. I agree with DreadedFist, at low speed, in parking lots, etc. it is a royal PITA. However at speed there is a marked improvement.

Ya it's going to be a road race car so I shouldnt be drifting to often. I think I'll just take the seal out of the steering rack. Thanks for the Input tho. It's good to know that it will work good for track racing.

I ran my car w/o pump many times. It's really not bad, but having PS is better.

Also the reason I put a pump back in is that the rack is designed to have fluids cooling and lubing it. If you take that out, you'll corrode it and cause catastrophic failure. Not worth the safety concern IMO.
