  • Oil Catch Can

    Hey guys,

Just wondering what you guys have done for Oil Catch can set ups? I have searched already and turned up some ideas with dual catch cans on rb20 and ones with 1 can. What set ups do you recommend, as well as what type of cans? Can you make your own. Also there is a DIY for this but the pics and what not are missing. Any help appreciated in advance.

So i have been doing some more research and i think the dual catch can set up with the drain from one can to the sump is a better option for me. Skym or anyone who knows how exactly does this work? ho will you send the oil back into the sump and where?

dont do that. rerouting it to the oil pan is dumb. hook it up exactly like the pic above with a greddy catch tank. <perfect size for skyline. then empty it once a month. easy easy.

          heres mine to show you.

Always have a hose that goes to the intake, from catch can. Use the setup posted by amnash, or its completely useless.

Did you get rid of your pcv valve from the left hand cover?

Return to the sump from first catch tank on a dual catchtank setup makes it a self draining setup. Means you don't have to drain catchtank every few laps or so if used on racetrack. More of a road, track, emissions friendly setup.

If racing car you want to have catchtank venting to atmosphere to get optimum performance. Why?, because blow by gasses could be made up of burnt fuel, etc which could spoil the burn in cylinders.

From what I can remember, catchtank has to be at least half sump capacity (around 2 litre). But for road use can get away with a 1 litre catchtank, as shown via diagram in Amnash's post.

Just got back from formula drift and the few guys rocking SRs and RBs had a single hose running from the valve cover to a catch can that was vented to atmosphere with a small filter on the top of the catchcan. I'm going to say that's probably the route I'm going

That's another way which might pass emissions (due to filter on catchtank). Filter replaces the vacuum hose that normally vents just behind engine. Best to have 2x vacuum hose. One from intake camcover breather and one from exhaust camcover breather to catchtank.

Or can vent it into exhaust with a check? valve on exhaust side (search the web for photo's, etc).

so how would i be venting to atmosphere? I am a little confused. I don't really want to be emptying a can when its minus 40 outside because i drive my car all year round? also how would you go about attaching it to the oil pan, where and how? anyone done this before?
