DISABLE HICAS OR FIX IT.
What do you guys think about HICAS.

right now I believe I have a problem. I just got my alignment done, and on occasion my alignment corrects itself 3" to the right.

Get rid of that s***.
I had the exact same issue, Hicas had a mind of it's own, and my car would crab walk a lot.

Send Daryl from RightDrive a PM, he got me a Tomei Lock Out Kit in a week. It's $200 for the kit and about another $200 for installation. I got RightDrive to install the lock kit and they did A+ work, from the lock out itself to disabling the Hicas ECU from throwing codes.

the way i look at is if your hicas works fine with no problems, no codes no hiccups then keep it but at the first sign of problems junk it

i hate how it engages, i notice it worst on on-ramps go above 80 or so and a nice linear curve turns into an unwanted tight cut to the inside :S

Lockbar or non HICAS rear subframe which is better for track use due to removing the troublesome balljoints. Then remove parts in rear off HICAS powersteering pump, reroute hoses, etc.

As far as I know, HICAS should engage when turning steering wheel over 90 degrees (steering angle sensor). Or should only work above 70km/h? (speedo cable). Both are shown in R32 catalogues.

HICAS is used to remove understeer in factory setup, as shown in the over 90 degree corner link with what happens to car without HICAS.

Fitting upgraded swaybars, adjusting ride height, playing with alignment, etc are ways to reduce or remove the understeer after removing HICAS.

Best way to get rid of it is to rip entire system out all the way to the front of the car, then loop the power steering line to the PS cooler. You can use a lockbar but you'll still have the craptastic tie rods and ball joints. You can get kits that eliminate those as well, replacing them with toe (?) arms. Or if you're feeling adventurous, swap in an r32 non-hicas or s13 non-hicas subframe. Locking it out with a lock bar is easy. But you should rip the rest of the crap out too. It's all pretty heavy and once hicas is locked, it's just sitting there taking up space

i dont know i havent been on the track as ther is a shortage of them in my area, but i have taken a few corners with some speed and i really do think that the system does have merit. did the old group a cars have this system taken out of the car? but for every day street use yes obviously its probably not worth the investment to keep it. but if i did alot of autocross and circuit racing i would definately fix it.

Even for autocross or circuit racing lose it for the weight savings. Like skym said, it does help with understeer but that can be corrected after.

Without HICAS and understeer removed a Skyline handles like it did with HICAS, but without rear stepping out.

It's like an appendix. If it doesn't have any problem, don't get rid of it.

If it's creating some problem, get rid of it quick and properly.
