  • NEED HELP! Rb20 Injector Problem?

Recently put in a set of gtr injectors into my rb20det as well as a gtr resistor and the car is now sputtering and missing usually arond higher boost. As far as I know the ballast resistor is installed properly and I used a screwdriver against each injector to see if I could hear if one was not firing. They are all clicking and firing as far as I can tell. The only thing I noticed is the second injector is slightly quieter. If anyone has any ideas of what the issue could be i'm in desperate need to get the car running right before the drift season starts in around a month.Any help is much appreciated thanks a lot, Chaise

Well first off are you even tuned? You can't just slap in bigger injectors and hope for the best you need to get it tuned to handle those injectors.

But from the sounds of it your running stupidly rich.

Like what was said above, ECU retune is needed. Look at getting Nistune for stock ECU and tuning engine. It's going from RB20DET 270cc to RB26DETT 480cc injectors.

I was told that as long as I ran the stock ecu and a ballast resistor for the larger injectors to correct the impedence that it shouldnt be an issue. I wasn't planning on leaving it with just the bigger injectors. I have a mines tuned ecu that is tuned for my new turbo that I haven't installed as well as the bigger injectors but I started out with the injectors as step one and wanted to make sure it was running right before I put the rest of the stuff on.

Still from what you just said. The ecu isn't tuned for the injectors. That's the issue. Youre running stupidly rich.

Alright so just put in the new turbo so I can run the tuned ecu that is set up for them and that will eliminate the issue then?

Using a generic tune (tuned stock ECU) from another car is not a good idea. It will work ok on the car it came off, but probably not so well on your car that might need slight adjustments to work, especially with a bigger turbo that leans out tune. Engines are slightly different with wastegate springs (not running same boost level), different intercooler (size, type, etc), etc, just to many variables. You need to adjust tune to suit your cars engine. Nistune is a way to do this.

It's not a generic tuned stock ecu. It was a mines ecu ordered out of Japan for my rb20 running gtr injectors, with an hks gt2530 running 1.5bar.

^ as skym said ,the mines ecu is not adjustable or tuneable youre stuck with the tune it comes with
you have no idea whats on it
best bet to get it running properly is to go back to the rb20 injectors, whoever told you you can use the
gtr injectors and ballast were 1/2 correct they are running but you are running way too rich
but the part about being fine with the stock ecu was incorrect
there are also better options than gtr injectors,, plug and play injectors that will work for the rb20
without having to wire in any sort of ballast
scrap the idea of using the mines ecu, its not going to make a difference with or without the turbo
and go with something like nistune then you can use the gtr injectors /turbo and have it tuned properly
                  for your car
understeer -is when you go off the road and see the tree that kills you
oversteer-is when you go off the road backwards and dont see the tree that kills you

Tuning a ECU without it being on your car is asking for trouble. On your car the tune might need touchups for it to work properly (get the hp you want) or prevent knock because of the mods. You could fit Nistune to a stock ECU and use that tune (if tune isn't locked by them, you can fit ECU to car, download tune using Nistune tuning software and copy tune, etc, upload changes to Nistune ECU once you fit it to car) and do the touchups on dyno. But it's not something I would do on my car. I would start with stock tune, add injectors, MAF, etc and retune maps to suit, as that way you know that it's done properly.
