  • Suspension???

I have a 1990 Nissan Skyline GTS and i was wonder what would be the kind of coil overs for my car. I currently have just a regular Nismo suspension bough second and and it does the job somewhat. What my plan is for the suspense to lower my car about a inch and a half nothing to crazy, but eliminate some body roll and when i punch the gas the back tires wont rub against the inside wheel wheel when i have more then 2 people in my car. My friends have recommended Cusco zero-3s but i like a bigger and broader opinion out there. Any recommendation or person experience to help me make my decision would be great. Thanks.

I found out that excessive bodyroll was due to failed outer link bushes on stock swaybars, loose components (alignment was out) and upgrading suspension didn't solve it. Just upgrading or changing bushes on swaybars reduces bodyroll (especially outer links that can crack). Upgrading swaybars to suit suspension (there's a formula you use, where you match to spring, shock) is the next step which makes car sit flatter. From what I understand, swaybars stop inner wheels pushing away when cornering. The pushing away by suspension makes car bodyroll more. Stronger the swaybar (bigger diameter) or shorter you make swaybar arms on each side (adjustable), the more it stops shock, spring from expanding and pushing away.

Also lower doesn't = better handling with stock arms. Stock arms have a certain amount of adjustment before aftermarket arms need to be fitted, especially with front upper arm that has none (that I know of), except I think can run washers on top mount on chassis side to get some camber adjustment (would ask alignment expert to confirm if it's the best course of action before doing that). Rear can be adjusted enough until go past certain ride height. Nismo worked this out with their suspension, so is already at a optimum ride height that doesn't affect alignment too much.

If going with aftermarket adjustable height coilovers, make sure body of shock screws into bottom of shock (to retain stock like shock travel at lower ride height) and shock is of high quality metal with good welds, etc. Spring rates are the other thing to look at, but I wouldn't have a clue what the car is going to be used for, I assume street??? Around 6kg front, 4kg rear is as high as I would go with stock chassis.

If street, probably can keep what you have and upgrade to Bilstein monotube shocks, fit upgraded swaybars (Whiteline, etc).

My next set will be Powered by Max. With 8kg and 6kg springs. Bang for buck.

Are you looking for entry level coilovers? If so try megan, ksport, pbm, stance, blah blah blah.

If you're looking for higher level coils try koni, greddy, hks, dg5, apexi, etc.

Stay away from used coilovers, I got ripped off before and I've heard of others getting screwed too. Hope this helps.

PS try www.zilvia.net/f for more info. They've got dozens and dozens of coilover review threads.
Looking for cheap parts? supguyex (Jon) is parting out his car. Good prices, good guy.
