Anyone know the difference between the regular RB25 turbo and the NEO version? I'm picking up a NEO as an upgrade for my RB20 so I was just wondering what the difference was. Any info you guys have would be great.
Thanks.

I think Neo turbo has a Nylon? compressor wheel. Also exhaust housing A/R might be different on NEO turbo. R32 RB20, R33 RB25 turbo's use the same size ceramic exhaust wheel, but slightly bigger A/R exhaust housing on R33 RB25 turbo.
Thats what I was wondering, I thought that it had a plastic compressor wheel. Am I better to purchase this turbo as a light upgrade on my RB20 or have a stock RB20 turbo rebuilt with some highflow, steel wheels and ball bearings? I'm only looking to make in the 280-300hp range so I dont need anything very large, I am mainly looking for response.
Thanks.

It's called a hybrid turbo (parts from different turbo's), as it uses machined (for bigger wheels) stock compressor, stock exhaust housings, Garrett CHRA + wheels from a VG30DET turbo (stock turbo is made by Garrett Japan). Highflow is port matching exhaust housing to exhaust manifold, etc, polishing housings, cutbacking blades / wheels for more flow, etc.
I run a hybrid RB20 turbo on my car. Response is really good. It produced 270hp at engine at 12psi with stock dumppipe, 3" exhaust, podfilter, modified stock BOV, stock ECU tune, stock SMIC and it's usually around 290-300hp at engine with ECU retune. At 1bar (14.5psi) it should be around 350hp at engine with aftermarket intercooler, injectors, Z32 AFM, full 3" exhaust from turbo, etc. Basically a hybrid RB20 turbo produces 20hp more than factory RB20 turbo at same boost level.
Thanks for the info Skym. So comsidering the RB25 NEO turbo is slightly larger but slightly less highflow, would I be in the same ballpark if I was to run that turbo stock as I am to run an RB20 turbo that has been high flowed? As I said I am shooting for around 290-300 engine hp with good response. I currently have an ARC side mount, pod filter, 3" down pipe, 3" exhaust and would be adding a 3" elbow, 3" cat delete, 255lph fuel pump, an ECU tune and running 14-15 psi on the NEO turbo.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks.
