You can always do a responsive turbo on a stock motor an have good quick fun
Rb25 will have more power from the get go and capable of a reliable 400rwhp on a decent turbo
Both motors built will obviously be better; but if it's a daily car, driven randomly and occasionally beat on... Stock motor wil do you
Good imtercooler, intake and turbo manifolds, exhaust and tuning and your set
    R33 GTST RB25DET series 1
    Stock motor, holset HX40, power fc d-jetro, bolt ons, 20psi = 492rwhp 364 lbft

With RB25DET, it's not just the electrics that will need to be done (to plug in under dash, etc), you'll need gearbox to suit and that has problems with R32 driveshaft tunnel (not enough air getting around gearbox thus not cooling gearbox), so will require a gearbox oilcooler, pump, etc (well known problem on racetrack). The driveshaft (propshaft) will need to be customised to suit (yoke / front part of driveshaft will need to be from a RB25DET driveshaft, modified to bolt onto RB20DET driveshaft).

With RB20DET you can get 400hp out of stock bottomend for daily use. If want 400whp, at least forged pistons, metal headgasket, upgraded valve springs, ACL bearings, fix oilpump drive problem (fit crank collar). Don't need to do much to a RB20DET.

This is a full on boosted up 400hp or so RB20DET (laggy Greedy TD06 turbo, cams, exhaust manifold, etc) -

Short drive in a newly purchaces HCR32. Fitted with small single, fuel system and so much more. Should be a Kelowna BC sleeper!

      Engine bay -

Recently purchaced HCR32 with a very long spec list. TD06, Trust Cams, fuel system...to much to list. Will have to get some better footage once she's all se...

This is a boosted up, very responsive RB25DET (with HKS 2540 turbo on I think is stock exhaust manifold) -

Short video of a recently purchaced ECR33. Fitted with a lot of parts. HKs turbo, fuel upgrades, aero, suspens, lsd etc. Should be a killer!

Both can be fun with the correct mods.

If RB20DET is modified incorrectly, doesn't have a ECU retune to suit, has problems due to age / lack of servicing, it can feel slower. He's probably just noticing that, if had ride in your car.

I would change podfilter to Apexi (That airfilter uses foam and it doesn't filter properly).

Then change BOV to Synapse BOV -

Also refit stock BOV recirculation piping. Should make engine more responsive.

Then look into getting bigger lph fuelpump + new fuelfilter + new fuelhoses (can crack due to age and cause engine bay fires, so replace them), Nistune for stock ECU and retune. Should be good for roughly around 288hp or so at engine.

You can get 330hp at engine at 1bar with stock RB20DET. With lighter chassis, it's enough to pass a boosted up stock GTR x2 with same restrictions in Targa.

Turbo size is key. This is a vid of my rb25 with holset hx40 which is about te same size if not a touch bigger than a gt35
Car pulls great, lots of top end jam when your abusing it. But response when daily drivin isn't the best. The sacrifice to a big tubo
