Just looking for the opinions on what route you guys would go. I traded my 240sx for a fairy clean and stock 1992 GTS4 about a month ago with my original intentions to use re use the stock transmission and put a rb26 in it for a daily driver, So I picked up a blown rb26 that came with everything but the transmission for $200. Recently I've taken a turn and would rather build a track car since I no longer need a daily driver with my work vehicle. And the rb25 almost seems more suitable, The rb26 I would need CP pistons, eagle rods, baffled sump, Tomei oil pump, tomei head gasket, arp studs and oil drain mods which is already around $3-4000 and I would still need other mods like power fc, holset turbo, injectors, mafs, manifold, oil cooler. Or would you guys just get a rb25 swap for a round $2k and throw that in there?

Why would you need an all new forged bottom end for the rb26 and not the rb25? Why do you need it at all? Your whole list is wrong, you want to spend $1500 on an oil pump and use a $300 turbo?
Relax dude and try drifting what you have, if you need more, ask how to achieve the goal once you have one...

I have my rb20det that is running in the car right now but I'm building the other engine over winter. The rb26 blew from detonation and since It needs a rebuild why wouldn't I do it right the first time rather then doing OEM rebuild specs every year. G-E your post is useless and maybe you should do some research on the rb26, Drifting the rb26 they tend to blow because of oil problems, and your comparing apples to oranges with a turbo and oil pump. That $1500 tomei oil pump is going to be able to take the revs and adjust oil pressure rather then the stock just blowing up from the revs. And a $300 holset is going to give me the hp I need and not have to much lag and easy to find new ones.Last edited by garetth; 10-16-2012, 06:50 PM.

In my opinion.....
step 1: Drift the **** out of the original rb20 this remaining season
step 2: Rebuild it this winter season and/or worry about swapping it then
step 3:??????
step 4: profit.
Also, a new comer to GTRC from saskatchewan! You will have to hit me up if you go to the yearly cruise weekend in saskatoon.Originally posted by Robskido you really want something a guy with a Civic has?

I'd love to come! And there are no more drift events around here for the rest of the season. And I've been contemplating just putting a rb25 turbo on the rb20 and doing the suspension but I'd rather not do more competitive drift events with the gts4's awd tranny making the front really nose heavy.

I remember a bunch of local buddies talking about the drift even in regina about a week or two ago. I never made it down myself due to work, but yes! I didn't make an appearance this year, but the previous year about 15+ cars came from PA.
Anyways, back onto the car topic.
Have you given any thoguht to just keeping the car stock for now? Rb20's w/ a good tune, fmic, exhaust, bolt ons etc etc are decently powerful. I've had my skyline about 4 years now, and I still love the response I get w/ a stock rb20. (She breaks loose sideways easy too, lots of low end)Originally posted by Robskido you really want something a guy with a Civic has?

Yea I drove in the drift event 2 weeks ago.
Keeping the rb20 would be nice, Right now I have yellow jacket coilpacks, HKS Super dragger, FMIC and AEM intake and a Gredyy Emanage Ultimate the rb20 feels great for street drifting and technical corners but top end doesn't feel like it has enough I'm sure a rb25 turbo would help but even then I have the AWD transmission in right now and when in RWD you can defiantly feel its nose heavy. I have most of the parts to do the RWD conversion but at that point I might as well swap something else in. That being said in my 240sx I swapped in a rb20 with a vg30et steel wheel turbo @ 17 psi, GTR injectors, z32 maf, rom tune, 3" straight pipe and a welded diff, and supporting mods but smaller technical corners were a pain in the ass to keep the rpms up but never had a chance to try any banks and after having a upgraded turbo in the rb20 and nothing happening till 4k rpm's I'd rather not go that route againLast edited by garetth; 10-16-2012, 11:24 PM.

Just my opinion, and what i would most likely do (even though my mind changes every other minute lol)
Just get a rb25det with trans, swap that in, good tune and some bolt ons and enjoy it till either something goes wrong or you get bored. If it does blow, then either rebuild the rb26 block or the rb25 with maybe the 26 internals.
or even if you can, slowly rebuild the rb26 while the 25 is in the car and running and if it ever pops then you still have the rb25 tranny and just need to swap the 26 in later.
I doesnt sound like you need a whole lot of power so i would just keep it simple, get a healthy engine and get rid of the AWDNote: Turbos make torque and torque makes fun

rb25 it til it blows, then build that
More displacement, and yes, these motors can handle a beating
I've run my set up for two and a half years and compression test this summer was 165-170 across the board.
Even the RIPS guys have built stock set ups for drifters.
rb30 bottom end, rb25 head completely stock except for a set of forged pistons
Drifting two years with it, not a thing has gone wrong.
R33 GTST RB25DET series 1
Stock motor, holset HX40, power fc d-jetro, bolt ons, 20psi = 492rwhp 364 lbft
