Yes it's a fairly common locations. Arc's kits comes this way for the R32 and they give a very boso look.
If you look at the pics from skycruise the blue R33-4 had a grill mounted heat exchanger.

What type or style of oil cooler were you planning to use. Here is a pic of the ARC

Problem with oilcooler core in that location (inbetween headlight's) is it can get hit by rocks, bugs, etc on racetrack or road (It's not fun straightening fins due to bug, rock hits). You would need some netting infront of it (to protect core). Also correctly sized netting, as wrong size netting can cause restriction of air to oilcooler core.

Common locations are in drivers or passenger side bumper area's (more expensive due to extra ducting, vents, netting, etc) or infront of radiator (mounted to top, bottom radiator supports via existing mounting holes for aircon fan, etc).

Infront of radiator helps due to radiator fan sucking air through oilcooler core when at idle (best for stop and start traffic) and protected from rock, bug hits (if have FMIC infront of oilcooler core). Only problem is if have intercooler infront of oilcooler, hot air is transferred to oilcooler core from intercooler core (higher oiltemps) when car is at speed.

In bumper area's with ducting is best in my opinion, but probably will suffer at lower rpm, stop, start traffic. But once car is moving, oil temps should drop. You can run a fan pack on oilcooler core if you need it.
