There are no threads on your bolt. The rest of that bolt is probably in the block.

Looks like it's time to use the drill, easy out tool. Lucky it didn't damage the thread in the head.

Replace all of the exhaust manifold studs, as when you tighten exhaust manifold back down in sequence, some more studs will probably snap.

it's not just one bolt, that's the thing! ALL of the bolts that came out of the manifold are cut at exactly the same place, only one thread after the smooth part of the bolt. they're all identical, it looks intentional.
by the way, does anybody know what exhaust manifold bolts are supposed to be torqued to?

would you guys recommend against taking off the intake manifold before taking the engine out? it looks like i can get at all the bolts/nuts holding it on and i prefer to work with as much space as possible, especially since im going to have to get at those engine mount bolts.

i wouldnt recommend it. its alot more work to pull the manifold off while in the car then off. believe me ive had to do it a few times.

meh, i decided to take the manifold apart in the car so i'd have easier access to the engine mount on that side. first half came off easily enough. Still on the fence about whether to remove the tranny with the engine... Max, i put a couple pics of the car up for you. Enjoy!

you made your job way harder taking off manifolds in the car etc..

too get studs out buy a left handed drill bit that may turn some out if not get an easy out hammer it in and turn out with vise grips..

nah, taking the manifolds off wasnt a problem. im going to put them on before i put it back in since i wouldnt want to torque those things while it's inside the car but it didn't give me any trouble. i also didnt know what wires, hoses, cables, etc had to come off. taking the intake manifold off made it infinitely easier to see what i had ahead of me and what i would have to do.
however, whats this about the studs? which ones are you talking about? head studs?

here's a thought. how the hell do you get all the connections together on the intake manifold side if you drop the engine in with the manifold already on??? there's some stuff that's just not easy to reach. on second thought, i think ill leave the top half of the intake manifold off when i drop it in so i can actually get all those connections in right.

the top part of the manifold is equally as hard to put on if not harder than the sensors.

i hooked up the few sensors on the side with no difficulty, when the motor was in the car you should be fine

took my cams out today, and took a look at the valves. take a look at my exhaust valve pics, one of them is cooked. anybody got an idea why?
