A pretty sweet mod IMO, and will probably flow better than an ebay POS.

It will because the plenum from ebay are known to have leaning out issue on the 5th and 6th cylinder, with the rb26 intake the flow kepp beeing constant becvause of the ITB.

Fitting the adaptor plate is really not that hard.We are 2 guys in quebec making this kind of set up right now, we will see those running next summer.

            cool build!
loving the 20 love, i agree the 26 plenum idea is a waste of time and money . if u have the reasons to do it then it might be worth the time . but if u have to send it out to get moded then id say go plazman like me, chopped up top plenum like alot of the guys on here or a proper front facing plenum built for the 20 .

The stock 26 plenum is also known for leaning out 6, and five a little, not that it can't be tuned out. And don't quote me on it, I'm not engineer (yet ) but I have always been under the impression that the plenum shape dictated the airflow to various cylinders not the throttle body layout? Someone please correct me if I am wrong on this.

I do think using the 26 plenum on the 20 or 25 is a cool idea if you don't mind modifying things or making an adaptor plate. From what I've seen nobody seems to offer a front facing plenum for the RB20 that isn't huge (not that I've really been looking), the 26 one might be a nice option for those looking for more response.

I'll keep it the way it is. Im maxed out anyway. 340whp and 383 ft/tq is near the highest you can do with stock internals and tranny. This setup is running good since more than a year but if i had to go with more power, tranny need to be changed for a 25 and i'll need headgasket and studs.

Gibson raceteam with RB20DET in GTS-R were running 1.7bar (25psi) through stock RB20DET intake plenum with stock GTS-R turbo to produce around 442hp at engine. Engine lasted 2500km between rebuilds, which was considered to be reliable for that time. With coated bearings that were produced after the Gibson GTS-R stopped racing, probably can get 5000km+ between rebuilds. That's when driven hard (foot to the floor most of the time on racetrack).

Can see here what the Gibson GTS-R drives like against a V8 powered Torana -

Look at the GTS-R on main straight, where it can stretch it's legs.

With stock GTR intake plenum, you fit highest flowing injector on cylinder no 6 and next highest flowing injector on cylinder 5, etc. Also can run it richer on aftermarket ECU that has individual cylinder fuel trim. Nismo intakeplenum has trumpet intakes on each cylinder (inside intakeplenum) and extra spots for a set of extra injectors on 5th, 6th, etc cylinders. With stock RB20DET ECU, have to run engine slightly richer to compensate.

On this 560hp at engine RB20DET in links below, they welded a stock GTR intakeplenum to GTS flange + part of GTS intake runners and added a front mount throttlebody. Didn't line up properly, but it worked.

                  Mods to engine -

That 560hp RB20DET was done on the cheap to see what could be extracted with stock cams, pistons, conrods, etc. Also was tuned with stock RB20DET ECU + Nistune.

I'll say this as I own a front facing plenum which some of you make large assumptions about.

                        [IMO]
                        -less low end
                        -better mid-high end

                        [/IMO]

-shape of tank affects flow to cylinders (5th and 6th leaning out is due to a more oval shape, rather than a sharp triangle shape.

-if you have the time/money/boredom do it.
-do it if you care about looks when going Top mount (easier fitment for the top mount turbo too)
-don't do it if you wanna save money and put it where it will give you more power #s
-do it if you want more response
-do it if you wanna stand out from the H engine crowd.
-don't spend 1800 on having one made for you when one can be sourced, then modified then fit. Much cheaper, efficient this way.

I have a build thread popping up soon but due to work/school/laziness to import pix from FB I can't seem to find time to make one. It has infos for 20 owners on overcoming some minor issues I had when installing top mount turbo set up w/ ext WG and front facing plenum.

Tuning/injectors in this week finally, shout out to Ztune again! MikeS and Gaelen!!

Those who have me on FB have a general idea of how my build went over the end of summer.

                        cheers

I would think less down low and more mid to high would be more to do with shorter intake runner length. Exact opposite effect on exhaust side where longer exhaust manifold runners produce more mid to high but lose bottomend. Also boost level drops by 1psi+ from memory with some turbo's (depends on exhaust housing A/R / size), longer runners. GTS-R is close to 0 at higher rpm's on dynographs I've seen. Also exhaust is quieter due to I gather it smoothes out the exhaust gas pulses.
