    Driving impressions

best mod to this car evar!!!!!! my spool time has been moved back as expected. But i can easily get to 20 psi now, where the ceramic took for-*******-ever.

it's kinda weird. it's like my car is faster than the mph it's showing?? my speedo is off by 6mph(more). But even when i monitor it with gps. 80 dosent feel like 80. and when i get to 100 it's like i have to put in more brake work to stop than before. i start to see spool at 2,500rpms. nit sure yet if my greddy ebc can controll the wastegate to regulate psi.

ive herd it can't. ive also heard that this turbo wouldn't spool past 15psi but that myth was busted. car is way faster attributted i think to just one bottle neck in the downpipe at the flange 3"<2.5" vs lots of downpipe restriction with my last stocker.

i didn't use my rebuild kit as i figured since there was no shaft play this turbo was good. and it is. i plan on getting a hx45 for my 1jz sometime next year.. these are good/cheap/proven turbos. and i recomment these to anyone in the market for an upgrade!!!

so iam ready for a tune tune tune. iam wanting to stick these 650cc's in so i can finally run some e85 and see what happens.

so if this engine dosen't blow up now iam just putting in $1,300 for some etc things and some paint and this will finally be done....

      Compression test!!

so i figured i would do a compression test to see where my engine is at now. maybe hve cause for concern, or i did this wrong.

so when i did this i removed the spark plug of the cylinder that i was testing, but left the other ones in. not sure if this would cause an issue as this video had all the plugs out.

and also i had everything hooked up except the intercooler piping and disconnected the maf. did 4 short turnovers on each cylinder.\

      front
      1-92
      2-100
      3-90
      4-90
      5-90
      6-102

kinda low as i hear a brand new rb has 160 across the board, ive also heard that some gauges read differently than others.

i know my ringlands aren't going out as there is never any oil in my cylinders(sans the bad old turbo). and the car sounds and feels strong. but is it dying?? hope not..

If those compression numbers are accurate, it's loooooong past due for rebuild/replacement.

Did u do your compression on a warm engine? And also u should have someone in your car cranking it so u can watch the gauge cuz u have to keep cranking until the numbers stop going up (it can take a few more than 4 cranks sometimes) so those r 2 reason your numbers might be low,. If u do it on a warm motor and still get the same numbers that's not a good sign.

^^yeah it was a warm motor. so whats going on it if these are the real numbers?? hg,piston ringlands?? i just had this car running for pretty much just 2 calander years.

Did you have it at WOT? A closed throttle can throw you out, was a 40 psi difference testing mine.

actually no. i didn't have the throttle open. i heard this on another forum. i will have to retest with the plate open and the fuel pump disconnected. any specific reason why the plate needs to be open??

so i tried it today with the throttle plate open and the fuel pump disconnected. i only started with #1 cylinder, but still the same number as when i had the throttle plate closed..

so iam guessing my engine is going out on me?? which is a mystery because it still sounds, pulls, performs strong. burns no oil and has no funky smoke comming out the exhaust.

i was reading my chiltons book and it said if your engine oil weight is off it could affect the comp numbers?? the fsm for rb20 says 7.5w-30

iam running 10-30. not sure if that would make a diff or not??

if it runs good then drive it. my compression is somehow low too but it has low km's and it runs like a champ. so im not fixing something that isnt broken.

^^i agree, but if thats the case aren't we missing out on our true hp potential??

So took some peoples advice. I put some oil in my first cylinder, attached the compressor and...... 90psi dry 148 wet. So my ringlands on all 6 are weak, meaning I got 90psi to toasted. Maybe I will rebuild a new engine next year of get another jdm replacement? Either way iam gonna drive this till it blows up. The weird thing is the car still dosent smokes and still pulls\holds 22psi just fine. Maybe that's why last year I only did 185hp?

But but but, remember iam using thicker oil than oem specifis. not sure if thicker oil (10-30) would reduce psi by 60lbs each cylinder?? but who knows?? still runs good and takes 22psi like a vegas hooker..

so tuning pains with the nistune continues, added my 650cc injectors(here to stay) and added a z32 maf also seeing as my stock maf was maxed out and my stock injectors were upto 116% duty cycle at wot.

so these changes had to be made. but nistune is really tuner friendly, still havent had time to sit down and read the pdf's for this, but still very confusing, and some value maps i don't have a clue. but tinkering with the k constant and the drop down menus i can drive and idle at 14.7afr. but wot gets into 9.7 afr(needs to be addressed).

heard ideal boost level shoult stay at 11.afr.

With your tune your going to need to adjust your idle to support those injectors. How much Hp are you shoot for? I know with my 550s they were a bit much for 350-400hp.

well i was aiming for 300-400. and when i got my d-werks they didn't have the 550cc injecs. so i got stuck with these damn 650cc's.

nice build thread! too bad about the low compression nums, but it seems like its willing to take a beating with 22 psi

^^yes it is. and iam trying to make it to the dyno to find out how much hp it's gained(not lost) since last year.
