  • Skylina build thread

Aight so I've been wanting to start a build thread for quite some time now but I've been having a hard enough time maintaining the car let alone being able to buy upgrades for it. It's a 89' gts-t type M. A little history about the car: I bought it about 8 months ago and it came with turbo back exhaust, intake, boost controller, coilovers, hks bov, rays rims, gtr grill. Pretty much stock engine-wise. The previous owner was a total idiot and left the car sitting in his driveway for 6 months because "It was too fast for him and his parents didn't like it." About 1 week after I got the car it started overheating like crazy and It turned out to be the head gasket. (Pretty sure the kid knew the head gasket was blown). It still drove fine though so I ripped around in it for another month or two until it started puffin white smoke like a f*ckin pulp mill and decided to just swap in a new rb20 and tranny. Car has been awesome since the new engine was put in and I've been really taking care of the new motor. Here's a pic of what it looked like when I bought it.

The car came with a cd player but it wasn't even hooked up, I kept the alpine system out of my old car when i sold it so I decided to hook that sh*t up because listening to just the engine was starting to get old. The setup is an alpine type r12 and mrp-m500 amp in a ported box. Barely fits in the trunk, sounds bad ass though.

I ordered a front mount intercooler off ebay and just installed it today, let me tell you these things are a royal pain in the ass to setup, None of the mounting hardware that came in the kit is useful, If any of you guys plan on getting an ebay fmic I suggest you go to home depot and pickup some square aluminum tubing, it made mounting the intercooler a breeze.(See pic) I don't have a garage either so I got pissed on by the rain for about 5 hours straight. Fun day. The bumper and rebar need some trimming still so I just drove around town with only an intercooler on the front today.

I'm not much of a fan of the stock gtst wing so I wanted to get a gtr spoiler instead, picked up a gunmetal grey gtr trunk and wing. I was gonna paint it black but once i mounted it I thought it looked sick the way it was.

I'm installing the screamer pipe tommorow . Can't wait to hear how it sounds, I'm sure my neighbors are just as stoked as I am. I'll try to get a vid tommorow if everything works out. RB25 turbo is on its way as well. That's all for now

Nice little project you have underway, what plans or goals do you have for it? Also what do you intend to do next year? (drag/lapping/just daily driver)

Oh, and *ahem*, I'll have to disagree with you on the sound of the engine getting boring. I can listen to an RB motor all day. The tone of an RB20 especially, beauty!

Nice pick up man love GTS' with the GTR front look. Are those stock fenders?

Thanks man, I eventually want about 300whp. Im gonna throw an rb25 turbo in for the time being, then i was thinking about maybe a disco patato if i had enough money, or a holset hx30. Plus i will need all the supporting mods first. She's Just my daily driver for now but next year i want to go to a few d-days for drifting and maybe take it to the track a few times. I've heard it's a lot of fun. Haha And yeah don't get me wrong i could listen to my car all day, but when your on the highway and whatnot its definatly nice to have stereo.

      -ps
Yea theyre the stock fenders. but i want to get the s13 jun bolt on flares i think it makes the car look way more aggressive

300hp is definitely a do-able goal. My stock Rb20 with AEM piggyback, Gtr injectors, RB25 turbo and 3"inch exhaust made 267whp at 14psi.

let me know if you need any parts, I still have everything from my old RB20 that I don't need anymore (since the RB25 is under way)

Ok sweet thanks bro, i think 300 to the wheels would still be pretty fast but i also want the car to be somewhat reliable

I daily drove my 264whp RB20. I know lots of guys who daily drove their stock 20's with more than what I made. The drivetrain can definitely handle it for a daily basis. It all comes down to two factors, how well you maintain the car and how you drive it.
