Removed my fuel tank this weekend to investigate a fuel leak. Be sure to be under a 1/4 tank of fuel before starting job.
Tools needed:
-Metric Socket set, largest socket needed is a 17mm
-misc hand tools.
Supplies:
-Gasoline safe/resistant permatex gasket maker.
-5L of premium fuel for re-fill (if your close to a gas station)
This is also a good time to replace your fuel pump, and pump o-ring.
1. Jack up rear end of vehicle, I only jacked up the driver side.
**Disconnect battery** any sparks can be potentially deadly.
**NO smoking**
**Be sure to have proper ventilation**


2. Remove Driver side wheel, will need to access driver side clamp, and remove the plastic cowling.
-note bolt at the top of the filler arm needs to be removed, rear plastic valence is removable and will just drop out.

3. to disconnect from fuel door, simply press the plastic seal off and into the body of the vehicle. Re-install is the same way, should be very easy to do.

4. Remove fuel pump. As Per Fuel pump DIY. Remove both cover plates, remove all pump bolts, slide pump back, remove both lines, and pull out.

5. Remove Passenger side strap. (rear bolt) Then remove driver side via rear wheel well. front bolt is easiest to get at and remove. An impact, or air ratchet is very handy, these bolts have a lot of stress on them.
** Be sure to support tank, when these bolts are removed tank will simply drop out.
-I used a pallet jack because i had one available, When tank is free lower it slowly, and remove the third line that goes to the tank.

6. Wash and or rinse out tank. Remove filler arm, and reseal. Its a good idea to replace all fuel lines. ONLY the 2 going to the fuel pump are high pressure, the third is a low pressure line, and only needs gas resistant hose.
I purchased mine at Napa for ~30$ with 6 proper hose clamps. My low pressure line was cut and leaking. both high pressure lines were very brittle, and beginning to crack.



7. Reinstall in car the same way as you removed it.
-Reinstall fuel pump with old or new.
-Reconnect harness
-Reconnect battery
-Fill with all 5 L of gas.
-Prime multiple times (i did not hear a buzz from the pump until i filled the tank later that day)
Troubleshooting:
IF car will not start after re-installation.
1. Lower rear end of car, gas may not be under pump
2. check all electrical connections, inside the tank as well.
3. Swap high pressure lines on the pump (i had mine backward, and it wouldnt start)
