Just to clarify you used the rb20 harness with the rb25 ecu or is that with the rb20 ecu? And how does that wiring change when you use the series 2 motor? Aka what has to happen to the coil pack harness since there is no ignitor box? If using the rb20 ecu do the temp sensors, or knock sensors need to be swapped for rb20 ones or can the rb25 sensors be left in?

I used the rb20 harness with a rb25 ECU. I'm not sure what you need to do for a series 2 rb25. I know the temp sensors work fine, but since my engine is missing the knock sensors I dont know.

Yeah the wiring for the ignitor and coilpacks will have to be done differently but just get the wiring diagrams and it should be simple.

Well if i got a series 2 motor and used both the ecu and harness would i be ok to just drop it in and done or am i still looking at more issues?

            OOOORRRR

Can u just slap on the rb20 harness with rb20 ignitor pack and just plug in the factory wiring harness? Would that work. Have it set up as a series 1?

if you slam the rb25 series II into your r32, i would personally use the series II ECU into it. however, that means alot of wiring eitherway but, i wouldnt use the series I ECU on a RB25 series II engine nor the rb20 ecu for that matter?

              just my .02

yeah i heard that using the rb20 ecu is a pain to get tuned properly. Its easier to use a 300zx ecu or nistune. I'm getting my rb25 ecu chipped so i'll be all set there. Those coils seem to be the big pain in the but. But if i used the rb20 harness with rb20 coils and ignitor pack then it should run just the same or no? Series 1 and 2 ecu's i read are also the same.

personally, make sure you have either the Series II AFM or better the Z32 AFM on that RB25 engine

i already have a z32 afm i've covered all my basis on power making. I am just trying to figure out my wiring now. Just don't want to limit myself to an easy series 1 swap with a half ass motor if a mint series 2 comes up. I want to know how to wire it also so when the motor gets here i'm not scrambling to figure it out.

                      Just stay straight forward

                      Series one:

                      Rb25 injectors and injector harness

Rb20 engine harness and Rb20 NISTUNE Ecu

yes i realize that. Read back a bit i'm more interested in figuring out the series 2.

awesome thanks man. Good to know about that AFM. I read through that install before and it doesn't say what series motor that is. I'm thinking its a series 1 unless they both series 1 and 2 install in that exact same fashion as far as wiring goes.

it shows for both series I & II using the pic on the bottom, and the color-coding is a bit different between the the two. just make sure to shield them really good so there isnt a signal/grounding issue.

ahh ok, well the plan is then if i end up with a series 1 i'll used rb20 harness and ecu, or 300zx ecu if i really want to get fancy, or if i end up with a series 2 i'll use rb25 harness and chip the ecu.
