  • ECU Question...

    Hey guys,
I have Blitz Access ECU for my RB20DET. I decided to crack open the case. Once I got inside, I unscrewed a smaller chip connected to the main board by a wide and flat cable. On the main board, there is a chip that reads: R32 AT ....is this an ECU for an A/T RB20DET? Does it make a big difference between M/T and A/T ECU's??? Should I discontinue use of the Access computer?

Won't matter. The A/T will be fine.

Did they socket the board, or just solder in the new chip?

How can I tell if they socketed the board? I'm pretty sure they just soldered in a modified chip.

        Does the chip pull out?

With automatic R32 Skylines, engine ECU gets a signal from auto ECU to pull timing during gearchanges. Without that signal, auto engine ECU should just run like a manual ECU. Also I think ignition timing is slightly advanced at bottomend for the automatic engine ECU.

Mark, I am running an A/T ECU in my car and its perfect. That small "chip" that is connected to the main board thru a wide and flat set of wires is actually knock board. DO NOT mess with it, man.

I dont know much about Blitz Access ECUs and how they are better or worse than stock ECUs, but you shouldn't worry about A/T vs. M/T ECu. All you will be seeing if you do a fault code test on the ECU will be code 54 (A/T signal), which is what Skym also mentioned.

If you find the car running well with this ECU, keep using it.

I'm not messing with any chips lol. The car runs well with this one, so I didn't think there would be a problem at all. Blitz ECU FTW, feels A LOT better than the stock one, I can tell you that much, there is a fairly noticeable difference, I love it. Funny you should mention the fault code issue...I'm currently running a 55 (everything good) lol. Which puzzles me a tad now that you mention it .

Bah, whether or not it may be an A/T ECU is still unsolved. But the car runs fine, I'm not going to complain at all...idles a bit high, not much, but still idles, runs, drives great! Thanks for your input.
