  • GTR Bumper on GTS-T

So when I bought this car the guy included a GTR bumper. Today I goto put it on, and the upper middle section looks like it will need some trimming, also the upper vents just show the bumper. Has anyone else had experience with putting a GTR bumper on a GTS?

    cheers,
    P

Here is a pic of the same bumper I am trying to fit on my GTS.

    I see.

They say you need to use GTR front bumper iron and move bumper (I presume holes) around 12mm forward to avoid the top edges of both sides of front bumper poking into wheel arches.

From what I can remember it was mentioned in this "R32 pix only" thread below. I think was installed on a blue 4 door R32 (post number 2110 in this link below) if you want to confirm the amount of mm -

I know that photo you posted, it's on this page (R32 GTR N1) -

Another way is to use R32 GTR front fenders without modifying holes, but they need washers under them. Also can't fit side skirts due to shape of bottom of front R32 GTR fenders.

East Bear in Japan made GTS versions of the R32 GTR front bumper -

      So here is the plan.

I didn't anticipate needing to buy a GTR front bumper (medal part behind fiberglass moulding). So I'm thinking i will cut out the metal for the N1 slots and trim the front gtr license plate mount to make it fit. Any other suggstions ? Anyone done this already?

i have an aftermarket fiberglass bumper that was meant for a gtr. installation involved slicing a large section of the metal facing the front from the rebar using a zipcut blade on an anglegrinder. then i had to drill my own holes in the bumper for mounting screws. the key is the screws under the corner lights, get those in first, then try and line up the holes under the fender (be prepared for less than perfect fit here just because of the differences between gtr and gts-ts). Then the three middle screws, I drilled my own holes because after i had the outer screws done there was no way they would line up.

Also, if you are planning a fmic then this is the time to do it when your bumper is off. I did all of mine at the same time and it worked out well because i also had to slice off a lot of fiberglass to allow the intercooler piping to fit.

          Thanks for the info.

In the pics I took, did you cut the metal off where the arrows are? As you can see in the pics the bumper shows through where the license plate holder is. Was this cut out? In my second pic you can see the gap between the bumper and metal but I can push that in abit more.

          cheers,
          P

i wouldnt go cutting of parts of metal off.
if you get an inspection done you might not pass because it changes how the bumper is made to react in a crash

              ^^

Be warned that it is illegal to change the structural integrity of a car. If you ever get into an accident and they find out, you could be in for some serious fun.

Yeah cutting metal from the Bumper was a safety concern for me aswell. I,m guessing that all the GTS guys sporting a GTR fiberglass bumper, also swapped the metal ?

chances are they were using a GTR bumper made for a GTST, so the 'mouth' section sits a bit lower so you wont have to cut it. just get that rebar from someone parting out their GTR, it would look better that way, also pick up the fenders for the OEM look as well

ya, i sliced my re-bar up in those areas. sure i wouldnt pass a 10km/h crash test, but any crash and your car is a write-off anyway according to icbc.

                        I see.

East Bear show that you need to cut bumper iron to fit GTR look front bumper -

It's sort of like a how to guide.

I think in some country's the bumper iron is not considered to be part of the structure of car, due to being bolted on instead of welded on. It's meant to collapse in a front or rearend crash (crumple zone) and be replaced. Also I think if you remove too much metal, they require it to be reinforced to compensate for the lack of strength.

Also a gts would look rediculous with gtr front fenders on it with out changing the rear quarters, it would be like installing half of a wide body kit

                              You're welcome.

I thought you were fitting a genuine GTR front bumper hence the 12mm and genuine bumper iron. Anyway genuine front bumper information should help somebody fitting a genuine GTR front bumper. Also GTR front bumper is I think made of 2 layer automotive plastic, which should be stronger than FRP (Fibreglass Reinforced Plastic) bumpers. That's why I think most use a genuine GTR front bumper.
