  • Active Speaker System Amp Bypass

    Hey,

So my rear speakers were blown and sounded like poo. I just picked up two 6 1/2" Energy speakers. Wow the sound amazing.

I have a panisonic headunit, a rockford amp and a PG sub wired up. Car came
with a Double Din crappy deck. What is the purpose of bypassing the rear amp? If you don't will it overpower the new speakers and blow them or does it just hinder sound quality?

I just don't wanna screw something up and blow these or whatever.

I just have an aftermarket amp and a sub in my car and called it a day (with 4 alpine speakers all around)

My set up was to just ignore the entire OEM sound system since the wires were old, so I just got new wires rerouted.

I just found the leads from my head unit that goes to individual speakers, rewired them by using the existing factory wire routing, then ran a power cable striaght to the amp through the firewall, then leading off to the driver door jam floor cover (where it says SKYLINE, you can hide a quite thick wire through it for a clean look) then wires from the amp to the sub in the trunk.

I think I'll buy some sound deadners for the doors to seal any holes in the new year.

If any one has any better way of routing their sound systems let us know. My set up provides a decent stereo sound and is quite balanced (after few adjustments)

By bypassing the rear amp, what does it accomplish?

well I may not be 100% correct, but the stocker is a tiny little thing and I just took it out. I tried out powering the speakers from my aftermarket amp and powering from head unit. For my preference I liked it to be powered by the head units so I don't blow my speakers at high volumes.

You can leave it in, but I like it not being used/taken out for fade balance and bass/treble balance

Why dont they do this in Japan?
With all the quality parts and work from what I can see on my car before it came overseas, they still routed amp wiring through the center console and under the rear "Skyline" floor mat.

Where in the firewall did u run your + cable through? Is there rubber plugs that u can punch through? That would be nice.

And did u run your audio wires down opposite from your power wire?

I am putting my audio in after winter and will find any help, helpfull.

              Thanks, Mike

its an amp. the stock skyline headunits used it to power the rear speakers.

but with new headunits and speakers.. they have amps built in. it can cause speakers to blow as well and sound like ****.

just bypass it an call it a day.

If you open your hood, go to the top left section in your engine bay and look for a hole that has a rubber bung in it. Shaped like a rounded triangle.

It's a big enough hole to put a child's hand through. You route wires into that, then go crawl under your dash by pedals and should be able to find some with a few tries.

And yes I ran my audio wires down as far away from my power/ground wire routing to prevent noise interruption/complication.

                    good luck.

                        double ampping

the deck has amp pwr, so does the factory amp, if u run both ur doubling pwr to spkrs, sounds good right, wrong bad for speakers and headunit can be done but must be done right or spkrs clip and then will be don for in a hurry
