  • Help cant get exh. manifold bolts off rb20

wassup guys, ive been in the process of taking off the exhaust manifold on a rb20 and i cant for the life of me get to the nuts on the bottom on runners #3, #4 and #5!!!
should i take the turbo itself off first to get to those or what?

Drop the turbo and set it down somewhere safe in the engine bay. Make sure you disconnect the oil/coolant lines first if they are the factory hard lines. This will give you access to the lower manifold bolts. Remove the manifold and it will be much easier to get the turbo out too.

You got it , it's a P.I.T.A, but it must be done. I've done it twice before, and the best way is to disconnect the turbo completely.

Make sure you douse your bolts with some liquid wrench before and let it soak for a couple hours. It will make your life three time easier, therefore not having to want to punch your manifold. Oh, that hurts too, so don't do it.

Disconnect from turbo. Right after you unplug the the lines, coolant will begin to drain from the block, just speaking from experience. You will need to refill the system with coolant once you're done.

you only really need to disconnect them from the turbo, but if they are in the way at all remove them totally. If you bend them just the slightest bit they are pretty much useless. I learned that the hard way.

Might as well invest in some AN fittings and lines while you are under there.

whats wrong with 16's? I'd run them if my brakes would fit under and they made decent sizes. Those look good
