hey guys i'm lookign to put an SSQ on my RB20's stock piping. will it run fine with the SSQ? i figure ill just unplug the vacuum hose on the stock one and eventually make a block off plate for it. is anyone else using one? i am planning to weld it on to the pipe that goes from the throttle body pipe to the the intercooler. any help or advice would be appreciated thanks.

Venting to atmosphere with BOV is not a good idea with MAF. BOV has to be recirculated with MAF.
I run a recirculated Synchronic BOV.
Synchronic BOV releases at any boost pressure, even as low as near to 0 on boost gauge (like someone breathing out sound). Also the increase in response is worth it, as engine gets to 0 on boost gauge very quickly. Have 0 problems with stalling. I actually noticed engine was way smoother in it's power delivery after installing Synchronic BOV. It's so deceptive that you have to keep an eye on the speedo, so don't break any speed limits.
The only problem is installing Synchronic BOV properly.RESPONSE MONSTER

yup.
my old school BlitZ was just fine until it started leaking. I have to agree with Brian here. I installed that HKS SSQV and not only did it sound poor (without valve installed) it made the car run just as bad if not worse then my leaking blitz. i didnt care for it at all!.......GTRCANADA.COM

I have the HKS SSQV and I really dislike it.
I don't mind the high pitched whistle but the backfires and the amount of work it took to get it on really isn't worth it.
Whenever I have the time/money I'll put a different bov on for sure.
Obviously this is just personal preference though. Some people like the backfire?Sideways is the best ways.

Synchronic BOV is designed to vent to atmosphere or recirc pipe when engine is off boost. Synchronic BOV closes when reaching 0 on boost gauge, as shown in this videoclip that shows what compressor surge is and diaphram vs piston type BOV (Synchronic BOV) -
Video of Synchronic Blow off valve on a turbo S2000 drive-by sounds of the BOV on car, and a comparison against another BOV.
Synchronic BOV has a optional VTA (Vent To Atmosphere) fitting that can reduce amount of air vented to atmosphere when running MAF. For example on a RX8 when venting to atmosphere with VTA fitting -

Another way is to run a airfilter over tip of Synchronic BOV when BOV is vented to atmosphere with MAP setup. Here's a Synchronic BOV that's vented to atmosphere on a RX8 and can see the airfilter he uses with MAP setup -

It still gets to boost nearly as quickly as it does on my car (my car seems to be slightly quicker) and that car has a bigger turbo (GT3071R??), advantage of a rotary engine that produces heaps of exhaust gas to drive the bigger turbo, BOV is VTA.
Not many aftermarket BOV's that I have heard about or seen in action will vent properly to atmosphere without fluttering (form of compressor surge sound, due to BOV is tightened enough to reduce air vented by BOV) with MAF. Recirculated is always best with most BOV's with MAF setup.
Here's a Greedy BOV when vented to atmosphere on a RB25DET R33 Skyline, when adjusted to not leak too much air, as to not make engine stall, etc with MAF -

My mate had a Type-S?? Greedy BOV that was recirculated on his R32 GTS-T and vented properly, but didn't hear BOV release at lower boost levels, near to 0 like the Synchronic BOV does. That's with 0 adjustment (out of the box) with Synchronic BOV.RESPONSE MONSTER

j/k lol I was the one who made the video for this car and as far as I remember the BOV was really nice but really expensive. Sequential BOVs are up there in the splerge department but worth the money if you have it.

i have HKS SSQV venting to atmosphere, don't mind the noise or the backfire. doesn't happen when driving normally.

Wow, never seen so much hate for teh SSQV before. I had mine on my hot side pipe and i never had any of these crazy issues you guys are talking about..
that said, it was too high pitched and loud.. i dunno if i'm going to use it here on my swap, or whether i'll use a BOV at all.
..if i could only find one of those old blitz or greddy type R's ....1991 HCR32
