No I don't think you'd want to be doing that...The vent is to prevent an excessive increase of vapour pressure in the tank.
so, putting a mini filter on the vent line allows 2-way air flow. putting a little air check valve allows only air to escape.

    which is better?

Don't you want the pressure? I mean it's a closed system with the canister in isn't it?

ive had my vent line from the tank blocked off (and canister removed) for a while with no problems.

        so idk

i would rather put a check valve but a filter works also.

if you block the vent line you can have a risk of the fuel tank getting really pressurized in hot weather.
which makes it escape the gas cap, i dont think the tank will blow up though

If you leave the vent line open to atmo with checkvalve or filter will this fail you at emission testing when they do the fuel tank pressure test?

M_melen, I've always known it as a charcoal canister.

I think the smaller diameter top hose on top of canister is vacuum feed from intake manifold to the valve inside top of charcoal canister. The bigger diameter hose looks the vent to intake manifold. I gather boost from intake manifold closes the valve on charcoal canister under boost, as to not pressurise the fuel tank and opens under vacuum. Similar to the way the stock BOV works.

Supposedly you change the filter inside as part of routine maintenance. Not sure how that's done. Maybe like aircon system, you replace the whole canister???

Never read the entire thread, but my canister has been removed for a few years now.
Yea, i did notice in the hotter weather pressure was signifigant when removing the fuel cap, but just had to slowly remove it. No biggie! Besides. wouldnt a bit more pressure simply assist the fuel pump/flow somehow?

other then that - the car runs fine without it!

I removed all charcoal canister and hoses, plugging the ports at the intake. There is only two lines exposed, one from gas tank and the other supposedly runs to frame rail. The only thing I would like to know if the open line from the tank will fail me on the Drive Clean test.

Can the canister be removed from a GTR without pulling the motor?
