Skym, I something tell me I would need a windows computer laptop for that cord to be of any use... Something I'll need to look into some time in the future for sure.
How would I check the DTC codes? Connect a computer to the car and check? Cause if that's how, I need some one on the lower island to come help me haha.

I would check the timing, however, I have no timing light.. again, something I should invest in. Everything in the cab works great right now. All the gauges light up, AFCneo pops up and works promptly, clock is bright, door ajar lights are bright.. The battery is full of charge at the moment.

I have a brand new fuse checker that I could push into each of the wires going to the fuel pump and see if it lights up?

have you tried boosting it yet.
if the car wont even crank that can be your problem... same thing happened to me lol only it was the battery shorted.

m_melen has a good point, if alternator failed the engine would run until battery is dead and engine would stall. Then engine couldn't be restarted due to flat battery.

Wootang, it's fairly easy to do, but I've only done it with Nistune tuning software, that has consult built into software.

1.) Remove panel (put hand in the hole and I think was press tab towards you and gently pull down to remove panel, as it's clipped in) under dash on drivers side of car to access fuse box. Look next to fuses and you'll see a grey plug (grey plug for Nissan's handheld diagnostic computer called Consult).

2.) Plug in Consult cable to grey plug. The Consult cable you buy can only fit one way onto that grey plug, as the plug is shaped so it can only be plugged in one way. You'll see what I mean when you do it yourself.

3.) Assemble home computer next to car and plug in home computer into wall with switch in off position on wall plug (plug computer into a surge protector before plugging into wall socket).

4.) Connect cable from car to USB port or serial port (depending on which computer you buy) on computer.

5.) Switch on wall plug and boot up computer.

6.) Then install USB drivers for USB cable (follow on screen instructions during install).

7.) Install datascan software (I think you'll need a key to activate software and software should ask for key during install).

        8.) Start engine on car.

9.) There should be a connect button in software and might be a menu that pops up to select gauges you want (there is in Nistune software) that display's sensor voltages, etc. There should be drop down menu options with "Consult" or similar menu name that displays DTC error messages from engine ECU. Should be able to clear DTC error code and reset engine ECU via buttons in software.

With datascan software that you buy, base ignition timing should be displayed on computer screen (digital gauge) when you use the gauges option in software and when you blip throttle, ignition timing figure increases.

is your fuel gage close to empty?

the first day I had my impreza, I had more than a 1/4 of tank, got home and it died on me...

restarted it idle fr 3-4 secs rpms went up then the engine died... I panicked, ran up to my room then cried.

Next morning I said your a big boy, walk to the gas station and by a fuel canister.

and I've never ran out of fuel since.

*I was joking about the crying part, but not the panick part

I think the engine would still start even on a dead alternator. But if it were dead once you get it running u can find out if its the alternator by putting a volt meter on you battery. Should read 12.1V when the car is off, when u fire it up should read about 13.6volts or so on idle and 14.1 when reving it. Regardless any change thats more than a volt increase when u start the car means the alternator is working just fine.

I think there has been some confusion.. The car does not run right now. On saturday night, the only thing i was able to do was crank it over and have the engine rev up to 1000RPM, and then it died, regardless of where I had the throttle at. As of today, the car will not start. It just cranks continuously until I turn the key backwards.

the gas tank has just over a half tank. I filled it saturday morning before driving up to cowichan

Only computer I have is a intell based iMac, which sits on my desk.. Looks after I pay my visa off, I'll have to go try and find a windows laptop. should it have XP, or windows 98?

car off battery voltage should be 12.6
                always.

Wootang, laptop with "WIN98, ME, 2K, XP, VISTA" operating system. It's mentioned at bottom of this link -

Also you should be able to dual boot a Intel Mac (partition harddrive into 2 partitions to run MAC, Windows operating systems).

Here's the user manual for Datascan -

It gives a better description of what Datascan can do and how to access the Consult / self diagnostic feature. The description I gave in post on install, setup procedure, was with Nistune.

Consult is called "self diagnostics" (page 11 in link above) in Datacan for seeing and clearing DTC error codes. Gauge selection is on page 6 in link above.

Yeah, i had my hard drive partitioned once, but I found it bogged the computer down too much.. As I use mac for (what was) 100% of the time, I just deleted the windows off. I could do it again, but since I don't have a garage and have to do work on the road, I think I'll just some shitty windows laptop haha.
                    Thanks for the reminder though!!

I'm in the process of removing the panel that holds the fuel pump (I'm using my iphone right now ), and the 8mm bolts don't seem to want to come out. I keep turning ad turning, but they won't come out any further... Is there some noob reason why this is happening???

I think all my bolts have been stripped. Jesus Christ.

This is turning out to be a horrible purchase.

Left is undo. Stripped the head of bolt??? Can drill middle of bolt and use a easyout if that has happened.

                        Easyout -

I ended up preying with a ratchet, and a really thin flat head screw driver for about an hour 'till they all came off...
Long story short, she runs!!!! idle is great: just over 1000
Tomorrow after work I'll go out and buy some new bolts so i can drive her all weekend .

Thanks for all the replies skym! I can see many things going on my christmas wish list from dear ol' saint nick haha.
