  • Bov leak

So I know its common for the stock blow off valve to leak quite a bit, and I knew I had an issue with this as my boost would drop off about 2 or 3 pounds at high rpms. But today I built the boost leak tester and decided to find out for sure, and to my surprise the bov is leaking for anything above vacuum pretty well. I found it hard to really listen as the pressure would bleed off so quick as I filled it up. I have even crushed the stock bov down abit but it has seem to habe no effect. Is this common to lose this much pressure? I assume I will be in the market for an aftermarket one now, whats a good brand for a reasonable price, im leaning towards a turbo smart one.

    thanks

does the blitz one come with the flange and all that for an rb20? rhdjapan has a few nice kits of seen that are bolt up.

Push type stock BOV should leak over 10psi.

Also stock BOV does fail. Replaced stock BOV on my car, but modifed replacement BOV to not leak before fitting. The modified replacement stock BOV on my car doesn't leak up until 12psi with a bigger turbo. But get surge sound at lower boost levels, which is not good for CHRA on turbo.

I'm swapping it out for a pull type Synapse BOV, as it has no diaphram (BOV reacts faster) and boost holds the valve closed, so doesn't leak. Also seen dynochart's of 20-24hp gains over a leaking BOV. But I don't expect to see any hp gains over the modified stock BOV. Also is a custom install on RB20DET, so expect to buy extra parts to make it work.

Cool, thanks for the help guys, at the moment im leaning towards either a SARD r2d2 or a greddy type rs (i think), their both under $250 with an install kit for an rb20, and are both pretty simple sounds, (no whistle).

I have a stock one that doesn't leak at stock boost if you want it. I would go a/m but if you decide not to you can have it free.

I might be interested just to try it, my car sometimes sputters and dies after a pull so im interested to see if that would fix it. I can trade you my old one too if you wanted.

Yea thats caused by a leaking recirc i think but with an atmospheric only the car will try to die if you go wot and then put the clutch in.

No worries you can have it, i was about to throw it out. Let me know.

Theres no smashing left to be done on it.
