  • RB20 Troubles.

Okay ive been playing with things for a while now with my swap and have fixxed all sorts of things hoping that my car will finally be drivable.
Unfortunately ive had no such luck.
In the past week or two ive fixxed, my alternator ground, replaced a bad coilpack, tested the resistance on the coils and injectors, replaced the plugs and gapped em to 0.8mm, set the tps, found out i had the IACV on backwards, oops, and changed the gas filled oiled with some prime motul oil!
And a number of other minor issues that would cause my car to run the way it does.
My idle problem seems to have been fixxed and my idle is now smooth, but the damn thing runs really rich (bout 11.5+ at idle), and it sputters and dies whenever its revved and then refuses to start. It turns over great lots of crank, lots of fuel, getting spark and no air leaks. I let it sit a while and it fires right back up so ive come to the conclusion that it is flooding.
    I have two suspicions...

    1. Do i have a stuck injector??? I listened to em and they all make the same clicking noise and they all have the same resistance, none are leaking. How do i test to see if ones stuck open?
    2. One thing i noticed when i had my car runnin with the maf unplugged was that the AFR was way more optimal and in the 15.0 range at idle which i brought down to about 14.3 by bringing my fuel pressure up a tad. However of course with the maf unplugged i cannot rev the engine at all really, so this leads me to the suspicion that my maf itself is working correctly but perhaps the wiring isnt right cause it doesnt seem to be getting the right signal if it runs mid 11 AFRs at idle with it plugged in.

If anyone has any suggestions or can lead me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated! I feel like im always just around the corner from being able to drive my car

Is your water temp sensor good? My car was running extra rich until I replaced it. It could also be the base timing.

Its not the timing ive adjusted that.
Ive tried replacing the water temp with my old KA one,
but for all i know that doesnt work either.
Your reffering to the sensor with the one single pin right?
      Nawt the yellow sensor??

Does it sputter while revving? or only once its returning to idle?

Okay i swapped out my IACV and my Coolant Temp Sensor with Kyles the other day and that didnt do a damn thing...
At a standstill, think its my ECU.
Rev's and idles smooth now just overfuels like crazy.
Cant give it any gas without it bogging out then dieing.

did you try using a different maf ?

the one with the yellow plug is the one you would have to swap out.
the best way imo to check for a stuck injector would be to pull the plugs out one by one and check to see which one is fouled up. by the sounds of it you either have a boost leak or bad injector.

double check all your piping including the pcv hoses, the smallest crack can upset the cars driveability

im going to try a different maf. My car has no problems revving like alot of maf related problems but ive come to a dead end and have tried
everything else...even a different ECU without luck still so hopefully this does it.

TPS or o2 sensor, as they can cause overfueling when reving engine at idle. Unplugging o2 sensor should solve it, if it's the cause of overfueling (was on my car). If still there, TPS.

                    O2
Check your TPS closed/open values and let us know what you get. Otherwise i'd have to agree with Skym and say the O2 is buggered. My buddy's GTR has one toasty O2, has a bunch of overfueling and enrichment issues..

Oh for future reference....it was a bad MAF.
It wasnt somethin i expected because i didnt have any trouble revving it
and all MAF problems i read about people could not rev over a certain RPM.
I didnt have that problem, but anyways got a new maf (thanks a zillion cschepp)
and fired it up and right away my AFRs were smartened right up.
After warming up she idles right in the 14.7 range!
No more overfueling, if anything i got random lean moments.
Now to fix my hesitation lol.
