  • Cooling system issues

well awhile back my car decided to stop blowing hot air, so today i changed the thermostat. the coolant came out looking all oily. However there is no coolant in my oil.
So i put in my new thermostat and put in all new coolant, i left the rad cap off as i ran it to get it to warm up, once it warmed up it started to spew out of the rad in bursts, is this normal?
Also my overflow seemed to always empty. before my new thermostat and coolant
I felt the lines going in and out of the cabin for coolant and they did not seem to have any liquid in them whatsoever.
Im going to check to see how the over flow looks after this change as well as the color of the coolant.

Any help would be appreciated about the oily coolant and my car not blowing hot air, just luke warm.

    Thanks, mitch

There's a screw on front of top half of intake manifold (says don't open when hot or something like that) that helps to bleed air out of cooling system.

If have brown coloured coolant, you need to flush the cooling system when cold (so you don't put cold water through hot block or head and crack them). Also remove radiator, send to radiator specialist and they will remove one endtank, rod radiator core (can be 30%+ blocked) and fit a new gasket for endtank.

There's many ways to flush cooling system, but from memory you can reverse flush through heater, etc via coolant hose at back of engine or was it firewall on passenger side and water can exit via top radiator hose or bottom radiator hose if top hose is sill connected to radiator.

i would jack up the front part of the car and Rad cap open then run for a while oh and put blower motor max hot then you should be able to get rid of air pockets in the system.
          good luck
